The playoffs are when the best players in the league bring their best to try and propel their team to the coveted championship. When looking back at the games played, it's fun to see how players performed individually. Stats like rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks are fun to keep track of and extremely important when it comes to a team's overall success, but you have to admit: there is nothing funner than seeing your guy light up the scoreboard while the other team sits there watching, with no answer. This year's playoffs didn't provide that many epic scoring nights, but there were some excellent nights. Here are this year's best playoff scoring performances.
Note: Only 40+ scoring performances will be presented.
1. Etienne Preira - Bulls vs Bullets, Day 125
46 minutes, 19-32 FG, 2-2 3PT, 9-10 FT, 49 pts
The #1 scoring night goes to EP! The amazing Preira did it once again, and Tiger is laughing at everyone who turned down offers for Preira this past season. Etienne came out and shat on the Bullets this game for the best scoring performance of the playoffs. He shot a crazy 59.4% from the field en route to stomp the Bullets who had an amazing regular season behind the Great Wall of Wang. Preira's amazing play led to another championship going to the Bulls, a clear UOSLR dynasty.
2. Larry Johnson - Hornets vs Raptors, 134
46 minutes, 19-29 FG, 3-6 3PT, 4-4 FT, 45 pts
The 2nd best scoring performance of the playoffs comes from LJ. Day 134 would prove to be an excellent night for impressive scoring around the league, but none as good as this one. The best of day 134 came in Charlotte though, with LJ scoring a scorching 45 points to help the Hornets stomp the Raptors. Even more impressive is that LJ did this against another wily veteran Grant Hill. 65.5% shooting from the field will certainly help a team, no matter who they are playing.
3. Etienne Preira - Magic vs Bulls, Day 134
45 minutes, 17-41 FG, 5-13 3PT, 3-5 FT, 42 pts
It may not have been his prettiest shooting night, but it was the 2nd best scoring night of day 134, which was a great day for shooting. Preira and the Bulls were in Orlando visiting the Magic, but that did not phase the best player in UOSLR history. Althoug he struggled to find his shot, Preira fought through it with support from his team and willed the Bulls to a crucial 2 point win on the road against the Magic. Add another amazing performance to the resume of the greatest player to ever play in the UOSLR.
4. Larry Johnson - Hornets vs Knicks, Day 122
41 minutes, 17-28 FG, 3-8 3PT, 4-5 FT, 41 pts
What a way to start the playoffs! LJ lit up T-mac all night long in 41 minutes of play for the Hornets. Johnson shot an amazing 17-28 from the field during the game, a solid 3-8 from the 3 point line, and picked up some nice change from the free throw line on 4-5 shooting. Congrats to the vet who knows a thing or two about scoring in UOSLR.
5. Yao Ming - Nuggets vs Clippers, Day 125
39 minutes, 16-32 FG, 9-11 FT, 41 pts
Yao Ming obviously does not mind playing on the road. He stepped right off the plane and almost carried his team to a win in the mile-high city with his 41 point performance. The big guy held tough in Denver and played 39 minutes, which is amazing for a guy with his size. He stroked from all over, including a 50% shooting performance from the field and an 81.8% shooting night from the stripe. Yao established that he is one of the league's most dominant bigs, even though he is still very young.
6. Jason Kidd - Knicks vs Hornets, Day 126
39 minutes, 18-28 FG, 2-5 3PT, 2-3 FT, 40 pts
Whoa where the hell did this come from? Kidd lit Damon up for 40 points when the Hornets came to town, wow! Kidd, disappointed by Manu and T-mac's poor shooting this game, took it upon himself to beat the Hornets at home. He shot 18-28, which is good for 64.3% from the field, which is excellent for a PG, specially against a great defensive team in the Hornets and an excellent defender in the Mouse.
7. Allan Houston - Magic vs Bulls, Day 134
41 minutes, 15-25 FG, 6-8 3PT, 4-4 FT, 40 pts
Allan Houston tried to answer Preira's great night on day 134 by scoring a massive amount of points on his own. He shot 60% from the field and 75% from the 3 point line, helping his team an much as he could to try and knock out the Bulls on Day 134. Houston proved to the league that he is still the best shooter from range with this amazing shooting night, even though it was not enough to overcome Chicago.
8. Yao Ming - Clippers vs Nuggets, 128
39 minutes, 12-20 FG, 16-18 FT, 40 pts
Yaoza! Check out another great performance for the Great Wall of China here. Another amazing 39 minutes against the Nuggets, this time in LA, sees Yao netting 40 points on 60% shooting from the field and a whopping 16-18, or 88.9%, from the line. The Clippers big man once again showed the league that he can show up big in big games and really punish teams inside. There is a bright future in LA.
9. Vince Carter - Rockets vs Suns, Day 123
38 minutes, 12-24 FG, 7-11 3PT, 9-9 FT, 40 pts
Air Texas (Air U.S. sounded dumb) really lit it up this game against the Suns. After a loss in game 1 to the Suns and an o.k. performance for Carter, he followed up big time in game 2. VC poured it in against the defensive specialist Tariq Abdul Wahad on a way to an amazing shooting night from everywhere. He shot 50% from the field, 63.6% from 3PT, and was perfect from the free throw line. VC showed why he is one of the league's best, if not the best, scorer from anywhere on the court.
