Washington, D.C., April, 9th 2009- Who is gonna win what?
It is that time again, time for award predictions. So here we go.
MVP: David Robinson, Center, Philadelphia 76ers
-He is leading in ppg and is 2nd in rpg. Even those he pulls down a half a rebound a game less than Dream, I think Robinson’s 2.4 ppg more puts him over the top here. The only thing that will hurt him is his lack of defensive stats. He is a good post defender, however he doesn’t block shots and that could sway some voters to go for Dream who is slightly a better rebounder, a worse scoring, but puts up those defensive stats. The dark horse is of course MJ. You can never count him out of something. 3rd in scoring, 1st in steals, always a contender to take home an award.
Mista MVP!
Defensive Player of the Year: Andrew Lang, Center, Minnesota Timberwolves
-There are two guys tied for the lead in blocks, so I went to my tiebreaker…steals. Lang gets more steals than Zo so that takes the cake. Dream will be lurking back there of course. I think someone who should be considered is MJ. Leading steals by .3, he is easily the best perimeter defender in the league.
There were two Andrew Lang’s. One in a Hawks jersey, and this one. I went with the latter.
6th Man of the Year: Who Gives a Fuck, I don’t, No One Does
-Really who cares about this award? It seems that FBB picks random people to get the award. I have no idea what the criteria is, I don’t think FBB does either. I figure the program just picks a random player, usually a power forward, who logs mpg in the 20’s and gives him the award. I am not going to take the time to search through every team because I will just get it wrong anyway. It is an absolutely crapshoot.
Rookie of the Year: Shaquille O’Neal, Center, Vancouver Grizzlies
-I don’t think this is a pull away for Shaq. His stats are great and he has lead the Grizzly into the playoffs (with the help of Oakley, Simmons, and Strickland of course) and his stats are beastly. Webber is a contender. Yes less point and less rebounds, but he has amazing percentages. He is around .050 better than Shaq from the field, and for a guy with range that is solid. He can dish as well. Speaking of dishing, Sam Cassell will be lurking back in contention. Solid points per game, good assist numbers, and a good turnover percentage is solid. But Shaq will likely pull away.
How sweet would it have been to be the guy next to Shaq?
First Team
Center: Hakeem Olajuwon, Center, Washington Bullets
-Yall thought I was going with the MVP didn’t ya? FBB is weird and this is one of those years where the MVP isn’t a first teamer. Dream takes the cake with his better defensive numbers and slightly better rebounding numbers.
I am getting tired of finding Dream pictures.
Power Forward: Karl Malone, Power Forward, Charlotte Hornets
-Yeah he is here again. The top scoring and rebounding power forward is likely to get the first team spot. Barkley can battle with him, but Richmond and Hardaway take away some of his points.
Same as Dream.
Small Forward: Glen Rice, Small Forward, Detroit Pistons
-Any surprises? Rice is a pure scorer and will consistently be at the top of the ppg list for a while. His defense isn’t that sexy, but he is improving it. No one really stands a chance at taking this from Rice.
Bad jerseys
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan, Shooting Guard, Toronto Raptors
-What sucks for Harper and Reggie is that they are on the same team, and are both listed as shooting guards. While they score, they are not on the same level as MJ. Top guard scorer, best perimeter defender. Yep he wins this award easily.
Same as Dream and Mailman.
Point Guard: Jeff Hornacek, Point Guard, Boston Celtics
-Points for assists. That is what this position comes down to for me. To I take a guy who can dish it out the best, or a slightly worse passer and a good scorer. Hornacek can score and dish (although not as good as Mark Jackson) so he takes the cake. If Jackson could crack the 15 ppg barrier, I would seriously consider putting him here instead.
Goooooobbbbbbb
All-Defensive Team
Center: Andrew Lang, Center, Minnesota Timberwolves
-No surprises here. Lang takes the title away from Dream. Zo will make a push for this as will Dream, but the DPOTY wins this one.
Here is the other Lang picture
Power Forward: Mark West, Power Forward, San Antonio Spurs
-This is a close battle. West or Dale Davis. Both are legit arguments. Davis is a slightly better stealer, while West leads in blocks. I say West mainly because he has played in less minutes pr game, and the fact that I value blocks out of a big man more than steals.
This was the first image after typing in “mark west basketball”, so I had to use it
Small Forward: Lionell Simmons, Small Forward, Vancouver Grizzlies
-Truthfully, I picked him because I didn’t want to look at every team. I hate deciding on defensive small forward because they don’t have enough steals to be on the top steals list and the same goes for blocks with them. I really have no idea who else should be here so there.
I think’s him
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan, Shooting Guard, Toronto Raptors
-Leads the league in steals. Maxwell is behind him by 0.5 spg so he wins it by default.
That DOES NOT look like him, wtf?
Point Guard: John Stockton, Point Guard, Golden State Warriors
-The #1 pg in steals wins the award here. 2.9 is solid for steals and makes him number 2 overall. Mookie Blaylock can make a case here with being behind Stockton by only .1 steals and because he gets more blocks, but I go with steals for a guard over blocks any day. Those on the outside looking in are Payton and Price.
Game Worn patch
All-Rookie
Center: Shaquille O’Neal, Center, Vancouver Grizzlies
-Of course the rookie of the year gets the spot here, why wouldn’t he?
Shaqawockee
Power Forward: Chris Webber, Power Forward, Houston Rockets
-The runner-up in rookie of the year voting still gets a place on this team. Nice percentages and solid rebounding numbers.
TIMEOUT!
Small Forward: Michael Finley, Small Forward, Dallas Mavericks
-18.7 ppg. That is what Finley is averaging as a rookie. While he may get overlooked in favor of the big 3 for rookie of the year, Finley is putting a solid campaign. Is it because his team sucks and he is the only solid offensive weapon besides Rick Fox? Probably. His percentages won’t blow teams away but solid ppg is always nice.
His pictures suck
Shooting Guard: Allan Houston, Shooting Guard, Vancouver Grizzlies
-He basically wins this one by default. With Penny moving to the point, he is the only shooting guard pick who is getting consistent playing time. His points aren’t high and he can’t defend worth a lick. He is shooting well from downtown, making over .400 of his shots. He isn’t amazing but he stretches the court for the Grizz.
No good pictures again
Point Guard: Sam Cassell, Point Guard, Atlanta Hawks
-18 ppg to go along with 7 apg is nice for a rookie. The Hawks are not blowing teams away right now, but they are improving. Cassell is a very raw point guard, but has room to improve. His low handle rating does not give him justice. He can dish it and has low turnovers. While he is B- across the board, he is a nice point guard.
Nice pics
