This took me a while to finish since i had to look over every team's needs and study the draft file. Man did it take a while. Anywho here you have the Lotto Mock draft.
#1 Los Angeles Clippers - Tim Duncan - Clippers hope that Tim Duncan will lead their franchise to success. Crazymike is going to be in his contract year this upcoming season. The Clippers should hope and pray that they stay at the #1 spot or drop to the #2 at the least. This team definitely use any help possible as they are horrible. They need a miracle and hope Tim Duncan is there answer. No doubt Duncan has proven in college that he is and should be the first overall pick with having a stellar career in Wake Forest.
#2 Philadelphia 76ers - Dirk Nowitzki - Dirk Nowitzki coming into the 97 draft is a surprise to many GMs after declaring early than expected. Dirk has a great jumpshot and is clearly not your average big man. He can shoot it from outside and has a decent enough post game to man up on the inside. He could possibly play multiple positions in UOSLR, so it gives the 76ers many choices on where to play him and what pieces to acquire as well. 76ers like the Clippers need all the help they can get, and Dirk may just do that for them. He will be pairing up with another young and possibly great prospect in Jermaine O'Neal who has yet to prove himself in his rookie campaign. These two should make a great frontcourt for years to come.
#3 Golden State Warriors - Chauncey Billups - GMs certainly question his playmaking ability. However Billups makes it up in his great defense and an incredible jumpshot. The Warriors can use Billups as their franchise PG since Mark Price will not likely return to Golden State. You can even compare Billups to Price. Their game is quite similar, though Billups ballhandling skills may be higher than Price's. GSW definitely needs someone to build around and Billups is definitely their man.
#4 Orlando Magic - Stephen Jackson - You can certainly say that there is some talent drop off after the 3rd overall pick. Magic probably doesn't need a SG right now with Penny Hardaway being there, though Hardaway has let the Magic know that he will be testing the Free Agency market. With the Magic picking Stephen Jackson, you get a guy who can defend and who is a very streaky shooter. There is no question he is probably the best player left after Billups, Nowitzki and Duncan. So with this pick, they Magic will select best available player and not go with team needs.
#5 Los Angeles Clippers(from San Antonio Spurs) - Derek Anderson - This pick goes with needs for the Clippers. They need a good shooting guard and they may possibly get one with Derek Anderson. He is a do it all type SG, he can handle, pass, shoot and defend. Clippers could be hopeful that this pick jumps and lands in a top 3 spot. If not they can settle picking 5th and drafting Anderson who could help them.
#6 Cleveland Cavaliers - Keith Van Horn - Another pick that goes by needs. Though however, Van Horn is a great pick for them. He is a SF but can also play the PF position. He would be a great addition to the Cavaliers roster as they already have their starting lineup filled out, though KVH would come off the bench, he would possibly be in line to win a sixth man award. KVH is a good shooter and has some decent inside moves. Not the best defender but coming off the bench, all you need to do is score. KVH would make sense for this team.
#7 Boston Celtics - Shareef Abdur-Rahim - Solid scorer and inside presence in Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Boston needs help at the SF position and Abdur-Rahim can fill out his role. Defense is questionable though he has potential to improve on it. He could possibly be a top scorer in the league in years to come, and especially for Boston, since they are a very old team. Ilgauskas and Abdur-Rahim can give them possibly one of the longest named front courts in UOSLR or the shortest in nicknames in "Big Z" and "Reef".
#8 New Jersey Nets - Tim Thomas - With plenty of guys testing the free agency market, the Nets are willing to draft Tim Thomas and hope his potential is sky high. He can play the SF or PF positions, though his game is very raw. A lot of GMs question his attitude and work ethic, and how his game is going to translate in UOSLR, and there are plenty of rumors that he likes to challenge other players to a boxing match. Nets are pretty much screwed in terms of talent left that are capable starters. They can either go with Antonio Daniels as well but many feel he has hit his ceiling, or they can choose Anthony Parker although rumors has it he may not even sign with his club but go over to Europe.
#9 Seattle Supersonics (from Los Angeles Lakers) - Antonio Daniels - Daniels comes in to play the SG position for the Sonics. Though he could play the PG as well, Daniels is probably more fitted to play the SG position although he may be undersized. However he still has the scoring abilities to make it work with Seattle. His defense may suck but he should have enough potential to raise it a little. He could be a good bench player or a decent starter. Another possible draft candidate for the Sonics is Kelvin Cato, whom could be a decent career backup Center or PF.
#10 Portland Trailblazers - Ron Mercer - He can be the second option they Blazers are looking for. Possibly has the potential to improve his game at the next level. Really not much talent here, most of the guys you are looking for are possibly bench players. It's good if you are a playoff team but not if you are a lottery team. Not much you can do but Mercer is probably the best available talent left. Either that or you go with Adonal Foyle or Maurice Taylor for his offensive skillset.
#11 Detroit Pistons - Maurice Taylor - Banking on his potential being limitless. Pistons need a good PF who can score and they get one in Maurice Taylor. His defense and rebounding skills are lackluster. Can't go wrong here with this pick. Maybe he'll burst in a couple of TC's. Maybe not but he should still be a decent scorer, possible sixth man candidate type.
#12 Phoenix Suns - Tariq Abdul-Wahad - Phoenix could use a defensive type of player on their squad, especially at the SF position. Abdul-Wahad is the type of defender that can guard multiple positions. Many people feel that this team could be so much better than they are. With their talented roster, Wahad may have a hard time finding minutes and possibly a coaching change may come. Whoever they draft this late in the draft, probably won't find many minutes with this team.
#13 Milwaukee Bucks - Adonal Foyle - Another team with a filled roster. Like the Phoenix Suns, they have a talented team and will probably make the playoffs next season. With the addition of Foyle, they get a big man who can defend and rebound. They already have enough scorers in McDyess, Hill and Allen Iverson. They need good and strong defenders and Foyle brings that to the table.
