Well, first of all, he was a dumb shit that broke up the team intentionally because they lost in playoffs. Then he wanted more high cost stadium upgrades after already getting upgrades to the Astrodome when Houston was struggling. So he went behind Houston's back and made a deal, then surprised everyone with it while he was still under contract to Houston.
Bud Adams was so hated that year. He actually killed all interest my father ever had in football, and I frequently heard my parents, family friends, etc. all constantly talking about how terrible it was. I was pretty young, but I can remember all that and once I was old enough to understand and read about it, damn, it really sucked.
