An early look at the 1992 UOSLR Draft!
1. Orlando - Shaquille O'Neal C
Projected UOSL Ratings.... A D+ D+ A+ A
Shaq is a stud. An elite player offensively and defensively that will make whatever teams drafts him much better. O'Neal is a virtual lock for Rookie of the Year and should win a handful of MVP awards during his career. Nasty.
2. Phoenix - Alonzo Mourning C
Projected UOSL Ratings.... A- C C A+ B+
The Suns already have a great young big in Derrick Coleman so adding a center like Alonzo Mourning is kinda scary. Mourning is an elite defender and extremely good scorer and add that to Coleman, Stacey Augmon, Mookie Blaylock and Hersey Hawkins and you have a great young team for the future.
3. Charlotte (from Portland) - Latrell Sprewell SG
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B B C A- C
The Hornets desperately need a SG and no one in this draft fits the mold better then Latrell Sprewell. A very good defender and scorer, Sprewell is just the type of two way player the Hornets are looking for. Sprewell and Larry Johnson should make the Hornets a playoff team for the immediate future.
4. LA Clippers - Terrell Brandon PG
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B- A- A- B C
The Clippers dont need a PG with Terry Porter already on board but they cannot pass up on Terrell Brandon. Brandon is an elite level player at a difficult position to fill. Expect Brandon to be a 20-10 player and either push Porter to SG or out the door via trade. Brandon should be the Clipps star player for the next decade.
5. Minnesota - Christian Laettner PF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B C+ C B B
The WOlves need to add a solid post player that can do it all, and Laettner is just that. Laettner is a solid post score and mid range shooter. He is also a pretty good rebounder. Not an elite type defender, Laettner will be a solid double double guy for the Wolves.
6. Charlotte (from Vancouver) - Doug Christie SG
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B- B- C A C
Doug Christie wont be a star, but he will be a solid starter. A decent scorer, Christie will earn his pay checks on the defensive side. He is a very long player that can not only play solid man to man defense but can play the passing lane well and create turnovers.
7. Cleveland - PJ Brown PF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... C+ C C A- B-
PJ Brown should be a nice complement to young stud Shawn Kemp in Cleveland. While Kemp will do the majority of the scoring, Brown can do the dirty work. Brown is a very good post defender and above average rebounder. Not great offensively, Brown should near 10 boards a game and deliver good defense.
8. Miami (from Buffalo) - Robery Horry SF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... C A- C A- C
Horry can play 3 or 4 for the Heat which is good because they need help at both positions. Horry is a very good shooter who also is a pest defensively. Horry shouldn't be a top option, but if used correctly could be a very good starter. Horry's defense is a huge plus. He is someone that can get a block and steal a game.
9. Milwaukee - Tom Gugliotta PF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B B- C- C+ B
Gugliotta is a very good offensive player and rebounder who isn't a great defender. Googs is someone that can near 20 points and 10 boards a game given minutes and shots. The Bucks have some very solid smaller players already, so adding a guy like Googs at PF makes a lot of sense.
10. Chicago - Clarence Weatherspoon PF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B- C C- C+ B+
Weatherspoon is an under sized power player that can board. Despite his short frame his bulk allows him to be very good on the glass. Spoon could be a 10 board a game guy. His offensive game is limited as is his one on one dfensive skills. Still he has a shot to be a good starter in UOSL.
11. Denver - LaPhonso Ellis PF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B+ C C C+ C
Ellis is a very good inside scorer that also has range out to 15-18 feet. Ellis can play 3 or 4 and should develop into a 2nd or 3rd option. Defensively he is mediocre and rebounding isn't his thing. In the right situation Ellis could be a 18-20 point per game player.
12. Charlotte - Walt Williams SF
Projected UOSL Ratings.... C A- C B C
Walt Williams, nicknamed the Wizard, is a very solid offensive player. He's a good shooter and loves to have the ball in his hands. Not as good going to the basket, Williams like to catch and shoot. A decent defender Williams is good enough to be a starter, but might be best suited as a 6th man.
13. Miami - Sean Rooks C
Projected UOSL Ratings.... B- C- D+ B B-
Rooks is a solid big man that can score and board a little. Probably best served to be a bench big that can play 4 and 5. Rooks could be a very good role player with his ability to score, reboun and defend.
