UOSLR DIVISIONAL AWARDS
Ok here is the next installment with the Western Conference and their award winners!!! Take another wee gander!!
Midwest Division
Most Valuable Player:
SF Kevin Durant Rockets
Taking out the MVP for the Midwest division is the one and only, Kevin Durant from the Houston Rockets!! He is listed at SF but has been playing PF this season. Durant has been in sublime form for his Rockets leading them to a 44-18 record behind his 35mins, 32 pts, 9 rebs, 2 assts, 1 stl and 47% shooting. Looking over the box scores he has had 12 games where he has scored 40 points or more and 5 games (Mavs, Bulls, Sonics, Warriors and Jazz) where he has exploded for 50 pts in a game!! He leads the league in scoring and FG attempts per game (47% is pretty good for someone who takes 24 shots a game), is amongst leaders in FT percentages and 3 pointers attempted and made. At only 24, Kevin Durant has a whole lot more history to make in this league!!! Amare Stoudamire, John Wall and Sebastian Telfair could make strong claims for this title, but Durant takes it¡K
Defensive Player :
C Emeka Okafor Dallas Mavericks
Emeka Okafor comes in for Defensive MVP for the Mid-West division. He was acquired near the end of the 1st half of the season in a trade with the Nuggets. He hasn¡¦t skipped a beat with his new team. He is averaging 13.8 rebs a game to go along with his 3.2 blocks a night. Since arriving in Dallas, the Mavericks have gone 14 ¡V 9 and have only allowed their opposition to go over 100pts 3 times during that stretch. During that time, 12 of their wins the opponent was limited to 90 pts and under. This is an amazing feat which can be attributed to the defensive presence of Emeka. DeAndre Jordan, Hasheem Thabeet and Alex Orakhi receive honourable mention also..
Rookie Award:
PF Jonas Valanciunas Dallas
There are a few nice prospects in this division that could become solid players in the division. Four of the top 13 picks came from this division; the top 2 picks came from Dallas and Memphis. Fab Melo and Jonas Valanciunas were taken 1 and 2 respectively but Fab Melo got injured early on in the season and has only recently returned to the active roster. Jonas on the other hand has had a strong beginning to his UOSLR career, averaging 21 pts, 11 rebs and 4 assts a game for the Mavericks. He won the first two Rookie of the Month awards and looks like a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year Honours. He has already had two 20 pt 20 reb games this season and his best game I believe was against the Jazz where he 25 pts, 15 rebs and 9 assts, showcasing his passing skills as well. Had Fab Melo been healthy his whole rookie season it may have been a tighter race, but this has to go to Jonas.
Sixth Man :
C Amir Johnson Dallas
6th Man Award goes to the Amir Johnson! He has been coming off the Bench for Mavs this season and looks set to start the next sim. Therefore seeing as he hasn¡¦t started at the time of writing this article, Amir gets the nod. He has been averaging 3 pts, 6 rebs and 2.3 blocks a game behind Okafor and Jonas.Terrance Williams would have had my vote but he has had stints in the starting lineup so I couldn¡¦t consider him. The lean mean Latvian Machine Andris Biedrins would have been another option who has played very well off the bench for the TWolves this season, averaging 4 pts, 5 rebs and 1 block in 18 minutes of play.
Midwest First Team
C Amare Stoudamire TWolves
PF Kevin Durant Rockets
SF Joe Johnson Nuggets
SG Ray Allen Rockets
PG John Wall Nuggets
The line up for the Mid West is a mix of youth and experience. Amare Stoudamire comes in at C due to the fact he has been there for most of the season and has been a very dominant figure down low for the Wolves. He is averaging 29 pts, 11 rebounds, 2 assts, 1 stl and 1 block for the season. He will team up with the MVP in Kevin Durant who will provide one of the most athletic PF/C combinations in the league. Joe Johnson comes in by default, mainly because Brandon Roy has been playing SG for the Nuggets and Johnson has played pretty well averaging 18 pts, 5 rebs, 3 assts and 1 stl on 47% shooting. The ageless one Ray Allen comes in at SG averaging 37 mins a game!! With 25 pts, 7 rebs, 3 assts and close to 2 stls a game. At 37 years of age, Ray Ray shows he can still play play lol. Sorry bad taste.. John Wall rounds out the starting 5, there were a few choices we could have gone with, either Johnny Flynn or Sebastian Telfair but Walls all round game got him the nod. You cant argue with 37 mins, 19 pts, 5 rebs, 9 assts and 2 stls a game now could you? Very nice lineup if I must say so myself!!
Midwest Defensive Team
C Emeka Okafor Mavs
PF Ekpe Udoh Nuggets
SF Caron Butler Nuggets
SG Ray Allen Rockets
PG Sebastian Telfair Twolves
The only carry over from the 1st team is Ray Ray, his 7 rebounds and 1.7 stls a game make him an obvious choice for this position. Defensive MVP Emeka Okafor takes his place at the C position and Ekpe Udoh comes in at PF with 11 rebs and 2.4 blocks a game. I could have put Oriakhi here but his team isn¡¦t winning so I went with the team that had the better defensive stats. Caron Butler comes in at SF, he has been chopping and changing with Joe Johnson but defensively hes the better player and it shows with his 6 rebs and 1.5 stls a game. Telfair takes the pg duties behind his 4.5 rebs and 2.7 stls a game, Wall could have been another/better option but I decided to go with Sebastian Telfair.
Midwest Rookie Team
C Fab Melo Memphis
PF Jonas Valanciunas Dallas
SF Delvon Roe Memphis
SG Noel Johnson Dallas
PG DJ Cooper Memphis
The All Rookie team looks like a good one. Fab Melo comes in at C (even though hes been playing PF) mainly because theres noone else to put there lol. Since his return from injury,Melo has been playing like a top pick. They were 11-26 without him and a have gone 10-12 since the all star break. He is averaging 19 pts and 9 rebounds this season!! Jonas is in at PF making these two a formidable duo.. Noel Johnson has been 3rd string for much of the season and has recently been elevated to back up SG/SF so I put him in at SF ļ. He has had 15 mins a game at 3 pts, 2 rebs and an assist a game. Delvon Roe has been playing at SG. He had limited minutes but has played well this season averaging 18 minutes 3.6 pts and 3.2 rebs.DJ Cooper rounds out the rookies with 4 pts, 3.5 assts, 1.7 rebs in 14 mins of play.
Pacific Division
Most Valuable Player:
PG Tony Parker Trailblazers
This one was a toughie!! You could make a case for any one of Mo Williams, Gilbert Arenas, Yao Ming or Dwight Howard, but I went for the guy who knows where to park things, Tony Parker!!! He has led his team to a 43-18 record and they will need his leadership now more than ever with his side-kick Tim Duncan going down with an injury. He leads the league in assists, is amongst the leaders in mins played, steals, scoring and FG attempts per game. It was a close call between him and Arenas for the spot but Parkers team is 2nd in the Division and could still take it out. Hes averaging 39 mins, 27pts, 10assts, 4 rebs and 2.4 stls a game. MVP !! MVP !! MVP!!
Defensive Player:
C Yao Ming Lakers
This could have gone to Dwight Howard also but I gave the nod to the Yaomeister on this occasion. Yao is 2nd to Emeka in rebounds and blocks this year averaging 13 rebs and 3.9 blocks a game for the Lakers. He looks to be enjoying his time with the ¡§other¡¨ LA team and could easily have had Gilbert as his MVP team mate. Dwight Howard receives an honourable mention with his 12 rebs and 3.4 blocks a game, but the award belongs to Yao!!
Rookie Award :
SG Jordan Price
Rookie award goes to Jordan Price who could win Rookie of the year for his play with the Clippers. He has relished his opportunity to start and has taken it with open arms. Mike has Jordan playing at C for the Clippers and it seems to agree with the youngster. He is averaging 18pts, 6 rebs and 3 assts and has already won a rookie of the month award for his play. Best game was against the Lakers.. 33 pts, 10 rebs, 4 assts on 13-20 shooting. He looks like hes going to be the focal point of the Clippers for years to come.
Sixth Man:
PF Anderson Varejao Kings
6th man goes to Anderson Varejao from the Pacific leading Sacramento Kings. He has been the primary back up for Whiteside and Bosh this season and looks like a key player for the Kings down the stretch. He is averaging 9 pts, 7 rebs, 1 assts and 1 block a game in 22 minutes for the Kings. Others worthy of a mention are Shaun Livingston of the Blazers, Rashard Lewis and Mike Miller for the Suns. Livingston would have been the next cab off the rank with his 8 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts and 1 stl in 23 minutes. Rashard is getting starters minutes but putting up bench numbers with 32 mins, 8 pts, 8 rebs and 1 assts while Mike Miller is averaging 9 pts, 2 rebs and 2 assts in 16 minutes.. You could also make a case for Jordan Price seeing as hes not listed in the Clippers starting lineup lol.
Pacific First Team
C Yao Ming Lakers
PF Dwight Howard Sonics
SF Travis Outlaw Kings
SG Tyreke Evans Sonics
PG Tony Parker Trailblazers
This is a very nice looking starting 5 for the Pacific Division. Yao Ming starts at C with Dwight Howard from the Sonics playing along side him at PF. These two are monsters in the middle combining for a total of 34 pts, 25 rebs and 7 blocks a game. Travis Outlaw comes in at SF behind his 22 pts, 8 rebs, 3 assts and 1.2 blocks a game. Tyreke Evans comes in at SG for the Sonics. He is Chippers/Houses little project and seems to be coming along quiet nicely, there was a time that people thought he would be leaving the franchise, but no, he stayed and is playing real well with 22 pts, 6.6 rebs, 4 assts and 1.6 stls a game. PG is the MVP of the Division Tony ¡§Mo Money, Mo Money¡¨ Parker!! Mo Williams just misses out but would have been a first teamer in any other division.
Pacific Defensive Team
C Yao Ming Lakers
PF Martynas Andriuskevicius Lakers
SF Danny Granger Clippers
SG Josh Howard Blazers
PG Gilbert Arenas Lakers
Defensive player of the year Yao Ming comes in at Center and is partnered up with Martynas at PF. Martynas has had a very productive year with the Lakers with 12 rebs, nearly 1 stl, and 3.2 blocks a game!! Danny Granger comes in at SF with 8 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks a game for the Clippers, showcasing his defensive prowess. Josh Howard is at SG for the Blazers helping keep opponents under 100ppg with his 6.3 rebounds and 2.8 stls a game. Gilbert Arenas comes in at PG with his division leading 5 rebs per game (for PGs) and league leading 3 stls per game.
Rookie Team.
C Jordan Price Clippers
PF Quincy Miller Suns
SF Lebryan Nash Suns
SG Durand Scott Warriors
PG Austin Rivers Warriors
The Rookie team will be led by the guy that can play anywhere, Jordan Price!!! He teams up with Quincy Miller who has had a pretty good rookie campaign with the Suns averaging 7 pts, 7 rebs and 2 assts on 49% shooting. They are joined by Lebryan Nash, who has only played 23 games this season but has 4 pts, 2 rebs and 1 assist in 12 minutes to show for it. We chose Durand Scott at SG because he is the only player shooting at 100% on the year, mind you hes only played 3 games but still!!!! Austin Rivers rounds out the line up for the Pacific Division, the 4th pick in this years draft hasn¡¦t had much to write home about, averaging 14 mins with 4 pts, 1.8 rebs and 4 assts on the year. Lets hope he can show the UOSLR nation what he can do sooner rather than later.
Looking at each Divisions teams it would be hard to see which one would win, which division do you think has the best talent?
And thats it, enjoy the read, woohoooooo Saga etc for UOSLR signing out, thats good bye from me, and good bye from him!!! If I got anything wrong, sincerest apologies!!
