Amidst all of krup's bitching, and ducky/play's bitching about bitching, and heatflash random nonsense, I've decided to make this thread since I'm taking over drafts again. Since I'll just be doing drafts, I have a shitload of time on my hands for them, so I plan on doing A LOT.
I'm already scrapping the whole list everyone and give a few lines of notes method. I'll be bringing back full profiles for guys, expect about 15-20 each year. Then I might give small notes on lesser guys. I'll still be doing a mock draft as well. However, I do want to ask for your opinion on what else would be cool to do.
Do you want me to continue doing this workout thing? The problem with it is ducky and play are right, they need to happen during the playoffs and before the draft begins. Otherwise you'll have people with the 6th pick waiting to see who gets picked then sending workouts. It doesn't work like that. Players go to workout with teams weeks before the draft. However, the problem with that is sometimes the playoffs get simmed quickly, and sometimes at ridiculous times because Ducky is a nocturnal being.
Now, I will say that draft files will be done a lot sooner than they have been in the past, even when I was simming. I plan to have the draft file and profiles done before Day 60 (barring any expedited simming) so you will be able to see players way before then. Obviously the lotto teams will not have been determined by then, so this might make the draft workouts obsolete, or at least impractical. If you have a better suggestion, please post it here or PM me, I don't mind. I'll be thinking of something on my own too, so I'm sure we'll come up with something.
Also, I really like the scrimmages thing, I'll do that too.
But yeah, come up with some ideas and throw them at me. Like I said, I'll be spending A LOT of time on drafts, so don't consider too much time consumption as a factor. If you want a Euroleague on the side for foreign prospects, let me know. A college league for domestics, let me hear it. I'm open to anything that makes you guys enjoy the draft process more. And while we're at it, give me any suggestion to improve anything. If I have to crack the whip on Ducky, I will!

I like everything you have mentioned. My only suggestion would be to keep everything clean, consistent and simple (in a relative way). I think scrimmages and work-outs are a great idea, however they should be easy to keep track of and also understand.
Good luck this year though, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Consistency and (complex) simplicity is my only request!

I am new but I ran a league for 5 seasons and we had a similar system with draft profiles, etc. Difference was we simmed a lot slower as in one sim per day.
I guess looking at it I'd say slowing the season down could be an idea. I know the league is based on pace so you'd still keep it snappy but instead of 10 days per sim, why not 5? The season flies along as it is from what I understand.
Another option is having a small break after the playoffs I suppose. A set week where this can occur, etc, before the draft.
In my league the profiles were put up during the season. Workouts could be conducted at any time during the season and we just had a cutoff date. If you had not used your points (we had scouting points per team) it was bad luck. Different here as given the time we ran through the seasons, most teams had conducted their scouting during/later in the season before the playoffs.
Just my 2 cents anyway.

James - Your wish shall be granted.
bronson - If you look back in the draft history board, back in the 90s, you'll see how I did draft profiles before. As for slowing down the season, good luck with getting these fags here to agree to that. This season did seem a tad fast for my liking, to be honest, but people here will scream "SIM" after we just simmed. I like the 10-5-5-10-5-5 pace, and to never falter from it, but Ducky isn't as strong-willed as I am! (jk Ducky, but srsly take it easy bebe). I think the regular season should last 2 1/2 weeks at minimum.
As for a small break after the playoffs, I wouldn't mind maybe a day or two break before the Draft, but I doubt that'd fly here.
Third point, profiles will be up during the season. Scouting points idea is interesting. I kinda like it. Sounds kinky.

Yeah, mob rules hey Seriously though, I'm still amazed that a season takes two and a half weeks. Mine took 3 months so two and a half weeks is crazy fast. Something I need to get used to for sure. Profiles are as I expected. Key points. Something to give the GM an idea on the player. We had a thread per player and they were fairly in depth with ratings, etc, but we had a lot more time also to do this so that wouldn't be feasible here. Scouting points was something we had but might be too in depth given the time frame? The basic system was that each team had a set amount of points. Differing amounts dependent on if they were a playoff team, how many picks they had, etc. Each point got you some information on an area. Rating information but not 100% accurate. A rough guide. More points you spent in an area the more accurate you could get it. Not sure that'd fly here. Time wise a lot of the things we did wouldn't fly here.

It's an interesting idea. Time wouldn't be an issue. If it went by too fast for certain people, too bad for them.

True. As long as I'm here, I'll probably always mention something about the speed. I like to strategize game by game. The slower the better. I get used to it but I'll always mention it. Better balance can equal a better experience all around if the time extending a season (say to one month) is spent on extra's that improve the league. I mean, a month is nothing. People still get a sim every day, etc. I'll be quiet now

You can say whatever you want, just be prepared for over half the league to probably respond with "stfu" or "gtfo."
I actually wouldn't mind a 10 day sim to open and close the season, the 5 day sims the rest of the time. That'd be a 3 week season.

I miss individual profiles. I like seeing them develop, declare, and withdraw.
The biggest thing is I'd like to see the consistency of the draft file being released. It would be fantastic if it was released after the trade deadline. This would allow proper timing to do draft workouts etc. Even on a deeper note it would allow GMs more time to write up mock drafts.
The scrimmages were fantastic. The coolest thing ever about the draft. I'd also like to see some type of reward combine. Perhaps you use your IT on scouting as opposed to bonus points on a player. Use it to figure out all physical attributes like Jumping, Strength, and Quickness.

Like I said, expect the drafts to be done around day 60, unless some super fast simming happens. Reward combine is interesting.

I should add to my post that the draft file coming out at the trade deadline would also give tanking teams something to do and participate in while the playoffs are being simmed. It seems so many GMs drop off or out for a week while we are simming days 100-120 then playoffs.

My question is... how long will it be before we run out of real-life prospects and then what happens?

My question is... how long will it be before we run out of real-life prospects and then what happens? I think Play missed a lot of really good college players in the past few years and went right to younger talent too fast. There are still a lot of young guys we could use for 3-4 seasons in my opinion. I could even help by developing names/lists as I see a lot of these kids in real life on the AAU circuit.
