HERES A LOOK AT THE ROOKIES THAT WERE DRAFTED IN THE 1994 LOTTERY AND HOW THEY ARE MANAGING IN THE UOSLR
1. Sacramento Kings -Jason Kidd PG 6'4'' 205 21 California
Pre-TC: C+ C A- B+ C A
Post-TC: C+ C+ A A- C A
The number 1 pick in the draft had a very solid training camp and improved his outside shooting, handling and defensive categories. His impact on his team has been great and has already helped them to a 10-15 record this year, compared to the 18 - 64 record they accumulated last season. He has had to come in straight away and
lead the team, which can be quite hard for a young player. He has been paired up with Terry Porter in the back court to form a nice combo, alas there is noone else other than Webster and Jerome Lane averaging double figures. If he can improve on his turnovers and 3pt shooting the Kings will have their floor leader for years to come. A great player to build around. He has had 1 player of the game award and has 7 double doubles already.
Best game: vs Bucks – 24 pts, 11 assts, 9rebs, 3-4 from 3pt
Worst game: vs Lakers – 24 mins, 8 pts, 5 assts, 5 fouls, 3 TOs..
2. Milwaukee Bucks - Grant Hill SF 6'8'' 225 21 Duke
Pre-TC: B C B- B C A
Post-TC: B+ C+ B- B+ C+ A
The Bucks selected Duke phenom Grant Hill at 2 and his results after TC have shown he was a great pick for the Bucks. He improved in every category except handles and pot. The Bucks are struggling again this year, but that is no fault of Grant Hill. He is averaging 20 pts, 8 rebs 4 assts and 1.2 stls a game, as well as shooting a blistering 51% from 3pt and 45 % overall. Grant Hill has star written all over him and if he keeps this up he will no doubt be in the hunt for ROY honours. He has already won 6 player of the game awards and a triple double, he can do it all. He is joined in Milwaukee with PJ Brown, Joe Dumars, Tom Chambers and Kevin Edwards. On paper this is a solid team but needs it to translate into wins on the court.
Best game: vs Hornets - 40 mins, 18 pts, 15 rebs and 10 assts
Worst game: vs 76ers - 28 mins 12 pts, 3 tos, 4 assts, 5 rebs
3.Atlanta Hawks- Antonio McDyess PF 6'9'' 220 19 Alabama
Pre-TC: B C- C- B- B- A
Post–TC:B+ C- C B B+ A
Chipper ( HAwks Gm) almost had an orgasm when Dyess fell into his lap at 3 and he had good reason to!! Dyess improved his shooting, handles, def and Reb!! At 19 he is still very young but has alot of growing ahead of him. Hes averaging 29 mins a game at 14 pts, 9 rebs, 2 assts and 1.5 blocks a game. He has had 2 player of the game awards and Rookie of the Month award already and looks to become a dominant force down low. Hes been playing center this season and is having trouble staying in the game, maybe if the Hawks can find a way for Dyess to play PF, he could be more productive.
Best Game: Vs Bullets 21 pts, 12 rebs, 6 assts, 3 tls and 1 blk
Worst game : Vs 76ers 6 mins, 1-3 shooting, 2 pts 6 fouls
4. Dallas Mavericks - Brent Barry SG 6'6'' 185 22 Central Michigan
Pre-TC: C+ B B- C C A
Post-TC:B- A- B C+ C A
The Mavericks had the projected 2nd pick this year but dropped down to the 4th spot. Barry is a very athletic SG who can take the ball to the hole and finish with a thunderous dunk or step out to the 3 pt line and drain a game winning three. He is very lean and has no business defending anyone in the post. His defense needs a little work but hes had a pretty good start to his UOSLR career. The Mavs drafted Barry at 4 and have had him playing PG for them this season and it looks like its paying dividends for this young team. Barry is averaging 13pts, 4 rebs, 6 assts, 1 stl and 2 TOs a game forming a nice trio of himself, Jalen Rose and Michael Finley. They had a 19 win season last year and are already up to 14 wins with a quarter of the season over.
Best game – vs Lakers, 31 mins, 7-14, 17pts, 10 assts, 8 rebs.
Worst game - vs Nuggets: 29 mins 3-12 shooting, 7pts, 3 tos, 3 assts, 4 rebs
5. Dallas Mavericks - Jalen Rose SF 6'8'' 210 21 Michigan
Pre-TC: C+ C+ C+ B- C A
Post-TC:B- B- C+ B- C A
The Mavs got this pick from the Clippers and proceeded to draft Jalen Rose with this pick. Jalens scoring improved over TCs and hes been playing SF for the Mavs and averaging 11pts, 4 rebs, 3 assts and 1 stl in only 25 mins of play. The Mavs have managed to give both Jalen and Barry minutes and have seen the both of them thrive
under idles system. Given time, Rose, Barry , Finley and Goog could become an exciting line up for the next few years. Jalen Rose has the talent to play PG, SG and SF but needs to find a position to specialise in so he doesnt become a "bitsa" player i.e. someone who can play 3 positions good but isnt great at either one. If he can find one position and concentrate, he could become a star...
Best game: vs Grizzlies 7-10 shooting, 17pts, 6 assts, 5 rebs and 2 stls.
Worst game: vs Rockets 26 mins, 0-4 shooting, 0 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts, 1 TO
6.Chicago Bulls -J.R. Rider SG 6'5'' 215 23 UNLV
Pre-TC: B C+ C B- C B
Post–TC: B+ C+ C B C B
Coming into the draft, reports on Rider were that he could be a problem in the locker room and cause a little grief to whatever organisation drafted him. The Bulls took that chance on him and havent looked back. To say that this kid can score is an understatement, he is hitting at 20 pts , 6 rebs, 3 assts and 1 stl a game for the Chicago team. He has had 1 player of the game already and 4 double doubles, there have been no reports of disruption or temper tantrums from the team locker room. He has led his team in 14 of their 23 games and has shown great leadership on the court.
Best game: vs Nets, 39 mins, 9-18 shooting, 27 pts, 10 rebs, 3 assts, 1 stl, 1 blk
Worst game: vs 76ers, 37 mins, 2-12 shooting, 10pts, 5 assts, 6 rebs, 2 TOs.
7. Denver Nuggets - Donyell Marshall PF 6'9'' 218 21 Conneticutt
Pre-TC: C+ B C B- C+ B
Post-TC:C+ B C B B- C
Marshall has been playing primarily off the bench and has been playing solid for the Nuggets. Hes been averaging 27mins, 7 pts, 5 rebs and 1 asst a game this season. He improved in TC in his Def and Reb but dropped in pot. He started the 2nd sim at SF but from then on has been coming off the bench at both SF and PF for the
Nuggets. If he improves next TC I think Donyell will be forcing his way into the Starting Line - up next season.
Best game: vs Pacers 27 mins, 6-11 shooting, 17 pts, 10 rebs, 1 asst, 1 blk
Worst game: vs Braves 33 mins 0-2 shooting, 2 pts, 6 rebs, 3 TOs, 3 fouls
8. Portland Trailblazers - Travis Best PG 5'11'' 182 21
Pre-TC: C B+ B- C+ C- A
Post-TC:C B+ B+ B- C- B
Next up was Travis Best out of Georgia Tech who improved his handles and def during TCs and looks like a solid PG. He has been playing a back up role for the Blazers, playing both PG and SG spots off the bench. He is a very good ball handler and can drain the three should defenses sag. Hes shown he can score with 4 games scoring
over 20 pts and averages of 10 pts, 3 rebs , 3 assts. He turns the ball over a paltry .9 times a game which shows he know when to pass and went to take the ball into the paint and lay it up. Sherman needs to watch out or his position could be gone at season end
Best game: vs Warriors 29 mins, 4-8 shooting, 12 pts, 11 assts, 7 rebs and 2 stls
Worst game: Vs Cavs 22 mins, 3-9 shooting, 8pts, 4 rebs, 2 assts
9.Miami Heat - Brian Grant PF 6'9'' 254 22 Xavier
Pre TC: B- C- C- B- C+ B
Post TC:B- C- C- B+ B- B
Brian Grant was drafted as a PF but has moved to Center to help the Miami Heat front court out. He had a decent TC and has seen his def and reb improve. He is shooting the ball well and leads his team with an impressive 51% from the field. He started the season as the primary back up center on the roster, but his stellar play has seen him move to back PF and C off the bench. His averages have been quite solid with returns of 8 pts, 6 rebs, 1 asst, 1 stl in 22 mins a game. Very good stats and ones to increase should he see more playing time or if Armen Gilliams form starts to fade in the next few years.
Best game : vs Pacers, 23 mins 5-7 shooting, 11pts, 12 rebs 2 blks
Worst game: vs Bullets, 15 mins, 0-3 shooting , 4 fouls, 3 rebs, 2 assts, 0 pts
10.Los Angeles Laker -Yinka Dare C 7'1'' 265 21 George Washington University
Pre-TC: C+ D F+ B C+ A
Post-TC:C+ D F+ B+ C+ A
The Lakers seem to be in a rut of late, they have lost 6 of their last 7 games and Harold Miner is out for 5 more days and they dont have their 1st this year. Dont expect Yinka to get them out of this rut. He has size and strength but thats about it. The beginning of the season was a tough one for Yinka, I would continuously find him at
the bottom end of the box scores and rarely up to top. He has however, started to find his feet in the league and is beggining to clog up the middle for the Lakers and providing a decent defensive presence for them. Hes averaging 5 pts, 6 rebs and 1 blk a game in 19 mins for the Lakers and if he continues to improve could see more minutes for this struggling team.
Best Game: Vs Heat 34 mins, 10 pts, 14 rebs, 2 blks and 1 asst
Worst Game: Vs Blazers 20 mins , 0-5 shooting , 0 pts, 4 fouls, 8 rebs ,1 blk, 1 TO
11.Los Angeles Clippers -Charlie Ward PG 6'2'' 190 23 Florida State
Pre-TC: C B- C+ B+ C B
Post-TC: C B C+ B+ C B
Coming out of College, Charlie Ward was regarded as one of the countries best All-round athlets ever. He was a heisman trophy winner and won the National Championship with the Seminoles. With that being said, Ward decided to choose Basketball as he professional sport of choice. What a choice that has been!! Drafted
11th overall, Ward has already won UOSLR rookie of the month and looks like a lock for 1st team honours. He is however, playing for the LA Clippers who are rebuilding and have chosen him to be the piece they build their franchise around. Good news is that he isnt shying away from the responsibilty and is having a standout season. Now playing SG after starting the season at PG, Ward is averaging 19 pts, 6 rebs, 6 assts and 1 stl in 37 mins a game. The Clipppers have a host of picks this offseason and cap to burn, so Ward does have a bright future to look forward to.
Best Game: Vs Nuggets, 43 mins, 15-24 shooting, 36 pts, 5stls, 7 assts, 6 rebs
Worst Game: Vs Knicks 39 mins, 3-13 shooting, 6 pts, 9 rebs, 3assts, 1 TO
12. Utah Jazz -Kurt Thomas PF 6'9'' 230 21TCU
Pre-TC :C C+ C- B- B- B
Post-TC:C C+ C- B+ B- B
The PF out of TCU has had limited time on the Jazz roster. Hes playing behind Arvydas, Danny Manning, Bo Outlaw and Clarence Weatherspoon and doesnt look like breaking through this lineup. His best chance is to prob seek a trade and make a living somewhere else. It doesnt look like his future is here in Utah. In the 9 games he
has played he is averaging only 1 pt and 3 rebs in 11 mins on .267 shooting. Not very good reading for someone tryna get into the rotation.
Best game: vs Pistons , 12 mins, 2-3 shooting, 4 pts, 2 rebs, 0 TOs
Worst game: vs Pacers, 12 mins 0-1 shooting, 0 pts, 1 reb, 2 TOs .
13Cleveland Cavaliers- Lamond Murray SF 6'7'' 236 21 California
Pre-TC: C+ B- D+ B C B
Post-TC:C+ B- C- B+ C B
Has played behind Shawn Kemp this season and spots at SG, doesnt looking like starting any time soon with Rex Chapman, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson and Laphonso Ellis there, but is still a nice player to have around. If TCs treat him kindly next season hes going to be demanding more minutes or at least a trade. If all else fails he
could put a hit out on Scott or Kemp lol.
Best game: Vs Bulls 22 mins, 3-5 shooting, 1-1 3pt, 11 pts, 3 rebs, 1 blk 1 asst
Worst game: Vs Bulls 7 mins, 1 reb 0 across the board .
Other Notables
Dallas Mavericks- Andrei Fetisov SF 6'10'' 220 22 Russia
Pre-TC: B- C+ C C C+ B
Post-TC:B C+ C C+ C+ B
Improved in def this TC the big Russian has been playing very good for the Mavericks averaging 10 pts, 4 rebs and 1.8 assts a game shooting 49% from the field. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Mavs and could be a good player for the future should he improve.
Best Game: Vs Nuggets, 37 mins, 8-13 shooting, 19 pts, 10 rebs, 0 TOs
Worst Game: Vs Warriors 13 mins, 1-7 shooting, 6 rebs, 3 assts, 3 pts .
Pistons- Tony Dumas SG 6'6'' 190 21 Missouri-Kansas City
Pre-TC:B B C C C C
Post-TC: B B C C C C
You always knew what you were going to get with Tony, and thats just what the Pistons got, a scorer with a whole lotta punch!! Dumas has been playing SG for the Pistons and has just thrived playing alongside Rice, Magic Johnson and John Stockton. Hes averaging 19 pts, 6 rebs and 1 asst a game whilst shooting 45 % from the field. Very good numbers for a rookie SG!! If he could just work on his def, he would be near unstoppable!!
Best Game: Vs Hawks 37 mins, 30 pts, 11 rebs, 3 assts and 12-14 ft shooting
Worst Game: Vs Pistons, 30 mins, 3-12 shooting, 8 pts, 5 rebs, 1 asst.
Bulls - Eric Montross C 22 7'0'' 275 North Carolina
Pre-TC: C+ C- D+ B C C
Post-TC: B- C- D+ B C C
The Center out of UNC has a great season thus far!! Hes had 2 player of the game awards and 4 double doubles this season and is looking very good for the Bulls. Picked in the 2nd round, Montross is averaging 10 pts, 6 rebs and 1 asst in 25 mins for Chicago. A pleasant surprise, Montross could take 1st team all rookie honours for his team.
Best game vs Cavs, 35 mins, 7-13 shooting, 19 pts, 12 rebs, 2 assts, 0 TOs
Worst game: vs Braves , 16 mins, 2-7 shooting, 6 pts, 7 rebs, 6 fouls

You always knew what you were going to get with Tony, and thats just what the Pistons got, a scorer with a whole lotta punch!! Dumas has been playing SG for the Pistons and has just thrived playing alongside Rice, Magic Johnson and John Stockton. Hes averaging 19 pts, 6 rebs and 1 asst a game whilst shooting 45 % from the field. Very good numbers for a rookie SG!! If he could just work on his def, he would be near unstoppable!!

Picked in the 2nd round, Montross is averaging 10 pts, 6 rebs and 1 asst in 25 mins for Chicago. A pleasant surprise, Montross could take 1st team all rookie honours for his team.
