Washington, D.C., May, 1st 2009- Who is gonna win what?
It’s a little late this year but why not, these are still good to go.
MVP: Michael Jordan, SG, Toronto Raptors
-After a year off from winning his first MVP, Jordan bounces back with his second one. He has a new long-term contract and is ready to continue to make a name for himself. He leads the league in point per game, is in the top 10 in steals per game, and has basically led the Raptors to 3rd in the East by himself. Did I mention he also is pulling down 7 rebounds a game from the 2 guard position? Yeah he is a beast.
Bah Bah Bah
DPOTY: Dikembe Mutumbo, C, Orlando Magic
-Talk about a close race. All 3 of the contenders have similar defensive ratings. The only difference the separates Dike, Dream, and Lang is .1 bpg…and that isn’t much. I am going with the new comer here. Dream will likely win it, but I wanted to give it to Dike.
He’s nice, just no great pictures
ROY: Charlie Ward, PG, Los Angeles Clippers
-Nice stats on a crappy team. Over 20 ppg and 7 apg with under 2 topg is nice. He won’t blow teams away with his passing ability but he is solid enough for now. His scoring is very solid as is his defense. He might turn into a SG depending on what his future holds for him, but he is a start for the Clippers none the less. Hill can make a run for it since he is putting up better scoring numbers and is also a rebounding freak for the Bucks.
Woo?
All-League First Team
C: Hakeem Olajuwon, C, Houston Rockets
-Are you surprised? He is the best scoring center, best rebounding center, and is a great shot blocker. He is a great player.
No pic, used most of them up
Power Forward: Karl Malone, PF, Charlotte Hornets
-Same old same old. He is still a good scorer and rebounder. If Kemp got more looks he would be up here, but he doesn’t, so he isn’t.
Instead of some witty comment…go here:
Small Forward: Glen Rice, SF, Detroit Pistons
-Rice can flat out score. He is 2nd in the league in ppg. He is actually getting some help this year with a capable big man (Smits) and a true pass first point guard (Stockton). He still isn’t a studly defender, but he is capable. As long as he can outscore his opponents, he stands a good chance at beating them.
Rice just isn’t that interesting
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan, SG, Toronto Raptors
-MVP, yadda yadda yadda.
yadda, yadda, yadda
Point Guard: Gary Payton
-Surprise number 1. Payton finally takes this award, and it is about time. His scoring is top notch (18 ppg), he can pass (9.6 apg), and is a good defender (2.9 spg, leads the league). PG is not a strong scoring position this year, but Payton is solid enough. Hornacek will probably take the award with his scoring, but why not give it to the disher who can defend and score some?
Glove
All-Defensive First Team
Center: Dikembe Mutumbo, C. Orlando Magic
-The same applies for here as does the DPOTY award. 3 guys have a legitimate shot at winning this award along with the DPOTY one. He could even see a guy with DPOTY and not make first team honors.
There was a great one of him, but it was unavailable
Power Forward: Mark West, PF, San Antonio Spurs
-Ellison does have more bpg, but lacks the spg to overtake West here. Remember, it is defense not just blocks that decides this, so I look at both. West and Ewing provide a solid defensive 1-2 punch for the Spurs.
His images are bad
Small Forward: Clifford Robinson, SF, Denver Nuggets
-I hate this one. Why can’t Pippen be a small forward and make my life easier? Robinson won it last year so he is my pick this year. That’s all I have to say about that.
nada
Shooting Guard: Vernon Maxwell, SG, Boston Celtics
-2.6 spg, first for all shooting guards. I dislike him.
If I can’t say anything nice…
Point Guard: Gary Payton, PG, Seattle Supersonics
-I mentioned he leads the league in spg so it should be no surprise he is here.
LEGO Gary
All-Rookie First Team
Center: Yinka Dare, C, Los Angeles Lakers
-There isn’t many top tier centers from this past draft class, so dare basically wins by default. Limited minutes have limited his production, but he is a deadly shot blocker. If his rebounding comes around he will be a very nice player.
There was a video called Yinka Dare presents…NBA fights
Power Forward: Antonio McDyess, PF, Atlanta Hawks
-He’s averaging a double-double along with over a block a game. He will need to have a breakout TC this next one for the hawks to make their CY.
Reminds me of Ah-Ha
Small Forward: Grant Hill, SF, Milwaukee Bucks
-21 ppg is very nice, especially for a rookie. He can also rebound the ball great for a small forward. The bucks have a start with him in their lineup and need him to continue his great production.
Most of Hills are either of him and his wife or other crappy ones
Shooting Guard: Brent Barry, SG, Dallas Mavericks
-Does he play pg? Yes, however he is still listed as a shooting guard so this counts. Solid numbers, but not great. Dallas needs a legit big man with all of their wings already set.
And he’s nice too
Point Guard: Charlie Ward, PG, Los Angeles Clippers
-ROY should be no surprise. Kidd is a solid pg, but ward is putting up better ppg and less topg, which I think are important for a pg to have. Kidd may turn into the better pure pg, but Ward looks solid. Like I said before he may see a switch in his future.
Heisman!
