DAM big ass trade. Lakers get a stud PG, but I think they overpay here. If they could have kept Dare, I would have liked this for both.
But when they dealt him, their 96 and 97 1sts look like definite lottos. Seattle wins definitely.

Deal doesn't work. Lakers receive too much salary. Its the Vet FA thats doing it....it cuts the cap room by $1,000,000 when he's signed....$1,000,000 has to be cut from the deal eslewhere

They aren't recognizing that signing the VET FA doesn't help them though, because it drops the available salary cap room by $1,000,000. There is no point signing a Vet FA if a team is under the cap in a deal, unless they are right at the cap to put them over.....it appears that they think that by signing the Vet FA it brings salaries within 7,700,000 but by signing him, the Lakers cap room drops to 6,700,000 making the Vet FA worthless. Yes they could fix it by taking out Rooks, or by sending an extra 1 million from the Lakers side to the Sonics

The deal doesn't work even without the Vet FA. I've tried it. That's why it's Rooks that is the problem, not the Vet FA. That Lakers are receiving too much salary.

So if I send Bennett and Thompson (the PGs) then the deal works?

I understand that, my point was they thought the Vet FA would make up the $1million difference in salary, but in reality he has no effect on the trade, because LA is under the cap, and signing him reduces the amount of cap room by the amount that they needed to save. They didn't recognize that, but by removing Rooks, or by the Lakers adding $1,000,000 to the deal to send to the Sonics, it would work....
