WESTERN CONFERENCE
Midwest Division
Most Valuable Player:
Jason Kidd TWolves
Jason Kidd takes this award for the Midwest division leading his Twolves to a 25 -11 record and 1 player of the week award already. Kidd is averaging 15 pts, 11 assts, 5 rebs and 2.4 stls a game
whilst shooting 50% from the field!! He has tasted victory last season and wants to go back there again this season. Last year he had DRob manning the middle and dominating down low, this
year he has the dream who is putting up pretty nice numbers this season as well ( 18 pts, 12 rebs and 3 blks a game). Hakeem desperately wants a title and is looking towards his PG and leader to
show him the way before he retires...
Defensive Player :
C Shaquille O'Neal Grizzlies
Another C Defensive Player awards for the Mid West Division. That is Shaquille O'Neal who is playing well for the Grizzlies and has led them to 2nd in the division and 3rd seed for the playoffs if they started today. He has produced solid numbers with 21 pts, 11 rebs, 4 assts, 1 stl and 3 blks a game showing he can do it on both ends of the court. This guy is in the prime of his career and is starting to hit his straps. He has a veteran look to his squad now with DRob and Mullin in the lineup and the maturity that these two bring is beginning to shine through.
Rookie :
Vince Carter Rockets
Rookie award this year doesnt seem to be close. We went with Vince Carter who has been awesome for the Rockets and responsible for many of their wins!! Hes averaging 23 pts, 5 rebs and 3 rebs a game for a team that in full rebuild and still looking at trading Kevin Johnson. Carter is going to be a superstar and will be the Rockets leader for many years to come!!! I heard that if Tracey McGrady makes himself available in this years draft, the Rockets will be doing their all to get the two cousins playing on the same team!! Thats what I heard, I could be all shiet!! lol
Midwest First Team
C Shaquille Oneal Grizzlies
PF David Robinson Grizzlies
SF Allan Houston Twolves
SG Hersey Hawkins Nuggets
PG Jason Kidd Twolves
This is a very scary looking Mid West First team. In the front court you have the Grizzlies big men in Shaq and the Admiral who both team up to provide their Div 1st team with a twin tower combo that boasts power, finess and agility. David Robinson has been on fire as of late averaging 29 pts, 13 rebs and 1 blk in 36 mins and the defensive player of the div Shaq has been providing the defensive muscle. Allan Houston comes in at SF with 23 pts, 4 rebs, 3 assts and 1 stl a game on 40% shooting for the year so far. Hersey Hawkins teams up with Div MVP Jason Kidd in the back court to provide them with a small back court but one that packs an offensive and defensive punch. This is probably the best 1st team lineups of UOSLR. What do you think?
Midwest Defensive Team
C Shaquille Oneal Grizzlies
PF Danny Manning Mavericks
SF Lionel Simmons Grizzlies
SG Hersey Hawkins Nuggets
PG Jason Kidd TWolves
The Defensive 1st team has two changes in it with Danny Manning and Lionel Simmons coming in at PF and SF respectively. Manning has had a very good season thus far averaging 11 rebs, 2 blks and a steal to lead the PFs and has earned his spot here. Also Lionel Simmons comes in at SF with his 12 pts, 8 rebs and 1,5 stls a game, helping his team to 97 ppg allowed. His 8 rebs a game are what cemented his spot in the defensive 1st team, considering he has Shaq and the Admiral averaging double digits in rebs also. Hawkins and Kidd come in again as the back court for the Mid West team.
Midwest Rookie Team
C Michael Olowkandi Spurs
PF Pat Garrity Jazz
SF Carlos Daniel Mavs
SG Vince Carter Rockets
PG Rafer Alston Utah
For the Midwest Rookie team, Olowkandi and Vince Carter are the standouts in this lineup. The Kandi man is averaging 9 pts, 6 rebs and 1 asst in 23 minutes of play. The rest of the team are Rafer Alston at PG ( 21 mins 7 pts, 3 assts, 2 rebs and 1 stl a game), Carlos Daniel at SF who is averaging 2 pts and 1 reb in 5 mins of play but averaging 50% from the field. Rounding out the lineup is Pat Garrity who is averaging 7 mins and 3 pts a game. These guys could make very good back ups in the league if given a chance, however, Vince Carter looks to be the stand out in this group. Olowkandi has potential to be a very good big man and Alston will be looking to transfer his playground stardom to the hard courts of the professional game.
Pacific Division
Most Valuable Player:
Steve Nash Supersonics
Steve Nash takes the Pacific Divisions MVP award. He has led his Sonics to a conference leading 25-9 record and a 12-0 home record. He is averaging a remarkable 20 pts, 4 rebs, 10 assts and 1.8 stls a game whilst shooting 48% from the field. When you take a look at the roster nothing really stands out, but they sure know how to win and play good team ball. And that all comes down to the man who holds the ball up for them and brings it down court. He has won player of the week and player of the Month awards so it was a no brainer to let him have the Pacific Divisions MVP award as well.
Defensive Player Of The Year:
Brent Barry Sonics
Defensive player would have to go to Brent Barry from the Sonics.Hes been averaging 26 pts, 5 rebs, 6 assts and 2 steals for the Sonics and stole the award off of Alonzo who also could have taken the honors. Barry has an a great game and has a long body with the athletic ability to keep up with the smaller guards and out run the bigger ones. A very tough match up for many players, moreso defensively!!!
Rookie Of The Year:
Kevin Garnett Trailblazers
Rookie award goes to Kevin Garnett from the Blazers, The number 1 pick of the draft has won player of the month both times this season and has played in all 36 of their games and is averaging 12pts, 9 rebs and 2 assts a game. Hes had season highs of 26 pts, 16 rebs, 8 assts 3 steals and 6 this year and could very well develop into the super star everyon thinks he will be. Hes prob been learning from Alonzo this season and the decision to stay in college those few years instead of coming straight to the pros after high school. He exudes class and will be a great asset to the Blazers for many years to come.
Pacific First Team
C Alonzo Mourning Blazers
PF Roy Tarpley Kings
SF Glenn Robinson Clippers
SG Brent Barry Sonics
PG Steve Nash Sonics
This is a very nice looking starting 5 for the Pacific Division. Mourning starts at C with Tarpley at PF along side him. Alonzo has been the dominant center in the Pacific division, averaging 26 pts, 11 rebs, 3 assts and 2 blks a game. He brings intensity and passion to the starting five of the Pacific Division. Tarpley has been a constant performer for the Kings, averaging 16 pts, 13 rebs and 2 blks a game. Glenn Robinson is the SF of choice averaging 20 pts, 6 rebs and 4 blocks for the upstart Clippers this season. His resurgence is prob due to the fact he doesnt have to do everything for the Clippers and has some support around him this year. Brent Barry and Steve Nash round out the 1st team, where both have been playing for the Sonics this season and are the reason for their great start to the season. The Sonics signed Barry from the Pistons in the offseason and he hasnt dissappointed. Hes been averaging 26 pts, 5 rebs, 6 assts and 2 steals a game along side Nash and looks like they will be a common sight in Seattle for years to come.
Pacific Defensive Team
C Alonzo Mourning Blazers
PF Roy Tarpley Kings
SF Steve Smith Kings
SG Brent Barry Sonics
PG Gary Payton Blazers
Mourning, Barry and Tarpley are the constants in this defensive team and are joined by Steve Smith and Gary Payton. I chose Smith cause he can also play SF and is better than what SFs were there. Hes averaging 22 pts, 5 rebs, 4 assts and 1.8 stls a game for the Kings and provides leadership and poise. Gary Payton comes in with his 3 stls a game and allround trash talk which can put even the best players off their game!!!!
Pacific Division Rookie Team
C Rasho Nesterovic Clippers
PF Kevin Garnett Blazers
SF Paul Pierce Warriors
SG Cuttino Mobley Suns
PG Jason Williams Lakers
The Rookies are led KG at the PF spot who is prob the most UOSLR ready player of the 5. He is joined by Rasho Nesterovic from the Clippers who has had limited game time behind Rik Smits but has averaged 3 pts and 3 rebs in 13 mins a game. At SF is Paul Pierce who has shown alot of promise for the Warriors and looks like someone who could develop into a star!! He has had 3 double doubles and has had season highs of 19 points and 15 rebs. Cuttino Mobley(taken 20th overall) has been a pleasant surprise for the Suns averaging 9 pts, 4 rebs 2 assts and 1 stl a game for the Suns. He has been solid if not spectacular. Rounding out the starting 5 is Jason Williams. He hasnt played a single game for the Lakers, but with C+ C+ A B- D+ B ratings, he should be playing!!! Its a pity hes playing behind Travis Best and Mike Iuzzilino, oh well, such is life, maybe he will get a chance somewhere else!!!
There ya have it, thats it for the Western Conference, from this you can see which one is out to win now and which is in a rebuilding mode. Talk and get some discussion going, theres plenty of top stars Ive left out but thats for you guys to debate ENJOY!!! Out of all the divisions I think the Midwest has the better 1st team line ups, Central has the better defensive lineup and the Atlantic has the best rookie lineup !!! What do yall think?
