*These stats are from the friday's sim, and do not include Saturday's games.
Washington, D.C., Jan. 31, 2009- Who is gonna win what?
Who will win the Maurice Podoloff Trophy?
MVP: Hakeem Olajuwon
-Surprise that I put my guy here? But seriously, he is a stud. #2 in points per game, #1 in rebound per game, #1 in blocks per game. I think the biggest thing is the margins he is ahead in rebounds and blocks. He is ahead by 1.3 rebounds per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. Michael Jordan is likely to pull away the scoring title and that will give him some major consideration. Patrick Ewing is #4 in points per game, #2 in rebounds per game, and #3 in blocks per game. All should be considered, but I just see Dream pulling away with it due to his complete game.
MVP Chants are booming in the Nation’s capital.
Defensive Player of the Year: Hakeem Olajuwon
-4.4 bpg. That is enough. He is ahead by 1.2 blocks per game and has kept the Bullets in games they should have been. He also puts up 1.6 steals per game as well. Michael Williams will make a run for the award as well. 3.1 steals per game is great, just not great enough for me.
Get that shit out of my face!
Rookie of the Year: Derrick Coleman
-Even though Lionel Simmons has won two Rookie of the Month awards, I have to give it to the big man. Averaging around 18/10 as a rookie, he is putting up solid stats for a vet. He also adds in 1.1 steals per game and 1.3 blocks per game. Simmons can make a run for the title, but I think as a wing neither his scoring numbers nor his defensive stats are in comparison. Gary Payton could also be a wild card, but with under 10 points per game I don’t see that happening.
Coleman
All-League First Team
Center: Hakeem Olajuwon
-Read what I wrote for MVP and DPOTY.
Da Dream!
Power Forward: Karl Malone
-Malone is putting up some nice numbers. Almost 30 ppg with over 11 rpg. He is the 2nd leading scorer at the 4 and the 3rd leading rebounder at that position. While he isn’t a great defensive big man (more steals than blocks), he is sufficient for his position.
Nice hat Mailman
Small Forward: Dominique Wilkins
-27/10 from the 3 position is great. He is keeping the Grizzlies in game by himself. While he doesn’t put up amazing defensive stats, he plays solid positional defense. His biggest rival here is Larry Bird. Bird and Wilkins are very similar, but Nique getting the advnatge due to his scoring and rebounding numbers over Bird’s steals and 3 point percentage.
This is better than him dunking…plus when I put his name in google, I got a related search of the next guy
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
-Is there any question here? The runner up, in my opinion, to the MVP award gets the nod here. He is a stud scorer who pulls down a lot of rebounds for a guard, he can steal the ball, and is shooting over .500 from field goal range. There is no doubt he will have many MVP awards to come. He could possibly, in the future, average 35 or even 40 ppg. Amazing.
Space Jam!
Point Guard: Michael Adams
-Adams has been great for the Lakers. Over 25 points per game, over 10 assist per game, and over 2 steals per game. I don’t like his turnovers, but his scoring so much higher than his nearest competitors (John Stockton, Magic Johnson, and Pooh Richardson) that he gets the nod anyway.
Stretch Adams!
All-Defensive First Team
Center: Hakeem Olajuwon
-Yeah
Nice Action Figure
Power Forward: Larry Nance
-2.9 blocks per game gets him the nod here. He is also stealing a nice number from the big man position. He also has the season high for blocks in a game with 13.
Larry says “Hi!”
Small Forward: Larry Bird
-2.2 spg and 0.5 bpg are nice. I always have trouble placing a small forward with the all-defensive team because are blocks and steals more important, or is taking a guy with not so flashy stats and better defense overall. I went with the first one. Maxwell could make a run at it if his blocks can increase or his steals go above Bird’s.
Larry wants you to eat whatever this burger is.
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
-Highest number of steals by a 2 guard gets him the nod. He is a great player, then end.
Nice!
Point Guard: Michael Williams
-A full 0.6 spg over his nearest point guard is nice and gets the little known point this spot. He isn’t going to blow people away with his passing or handling skills, but he can sure steal the ball from guys.
I couldn't find a picture of Williams, but I did find this sweet backpack
