UOSLR is entering a very fun time for sim leagues as we enter the future where everyone is the great unknown. There is no professional background to gauge and project how a player may or may not turn out. I'm fortunate enough to watch a ton of college basketball and I'm very familiar with a lot of teams and players. Not to say all of these guys have NBA written all over them but who cares this isn't the NBA nor is it real life. Some of these players may or may not have decorated careers in UOSLR. However they are playing hard in the hopes of making it to the big show! Here is a look at 10 guys at each position who have not yet been mentioned in the scouting reports.
Devan Downey- South Carolina
He's packs a big punch despite being pint sized. He is a one man show that can do it on both ends of the floor. He is a seriously pesky defender while also lighting it up in the scoring department. He honestly reminds me a bit of Allen Iverson.
Jon Scheyer- Duke
Hate on the Dukies all you want but Jon Scheyer is a guy who knows how to get it done. He's the ultimate crafty player being able to shoot, handle, distribute, and get to the FT line. I could see him being a poor man's Manu Ginobili.
Chris Wright- Georgetown
He's like a roller coaster with many ups and downs but he gives a lot of thrills. Wright has one of the quicker first steps in the league but he's yet to put it all together. He's had some chemistry issues internally in the locker room at georgetown that isn't publicly known but that seems to be all in the past. He could be a nice back up scoring combo guy.
Corey Fisher- Villanova
He's set to get out of Scotties shadow and who knows if its true he got Scotties GF pregnant or not but damn Corey has some game. He is one of my personal favorites because he handles the ball so well and he gets to the line a good amount for a PG. He knocks down the 3 very efficiently too. He could be a stud in UOSLR
Tyshawn Taylor- Kansas
Luckily for Taylor, Tom Crean left Marquette and this opened up his recruitment to allow him to attend Kansas where he became a national champion. He is jay-rock solid handling the ball and he enjoys having the ball in his hand in crunch time. Certainly a player I'd like to have on my team.
Kemba Walker- UConn
Mr. NYC the birth place of the point guard. Kemba has swag all over him and he isn't afraid of anyone. He has crazy handles and lighting quick speed. His jump shot is developing but he's more of an uptempo player. He can hit it though if you leave him wide open so respect the J. If he gets that going he could be really special.
Erving Walker- Florida
Much like the walker above him he's a handle machine who like to penetrate and score off the bounch. Walker could be the next player to make the jump to UOSLR under the tutelage of Billy Donovan.
Larry Drew II- UNC
Rumor has it that he wants to make the jump out of UNC and go to the league. He might not be so ready yet but there is certainly a lot of potential about this kid. He comes from great pedigree and a lot of scouts see him turning into some thing special but he's not exactly ready yet.
Scottie Reynolds- Villanova
I've been one of the biggest Scottie Reynolds critics over the years but he really developed his outside shooting and perfected his floaters and his knack to draw contact and finish. He super duper quick and often one step ahead of his defender both physically and mentally. I think he could really be a fun player to watch in the UOSLR.
Denis Clemente- Kansas St.
Cha Cha Cha the Puerto Rican is hot hot hot. This kid is a baller and knows how to get it done. He reminds me a lot of Chauncey Billups in the fact that he's so clutch and so consistent. I think he's going to make a GM in this league very happy someday.
Aubrey Coleman- Houston
Many of you are probably saying who? Let me tell you Coleman can flat out SCORE! The dude can make it rain from 3 point land. He scores in bunches and single handedly led the Houston Cougars to the NCAA tournament. Oh yea he did lead the country in scoring too and did it against some good competition. This guy is very very legit. He also rebounds the ball really well too. Think T-Mac.
Sherron Collins- Kansas
Collins knows how to play the game. He's a true baller and warrior. He's a great guy to have in the locker room and natural born leader. I see him more as a backup in the league than anything but he should be a pretty productive scorer and moderate defender.
Nolan Smith- Duke
Talk about a guy who has stepped up his game over his career. He came in with a lot of hype and perhaps underachieved a bit coming in but he's certainly living up to expectations now. He can play either guard spot, score, and defend the basketball. I think he becomes a starter in this league.
Manny Harris- Michigan
Another big time scorer who should have a career along the lines of Ricky Davis. He's got size and strength of a UOSLR pro and could have even more potential to be a legit scoring option if given the right attention.
E'Twaun Moore- Purdue
A very solid player who can score the basketball with efficiency. Often over looked because of his other teammates notoriety but he's really the glue to the team and you saw that in this year's NCAA tournament when everyone counted them out.
LaceDarius Dunn- Baylor
Doesn't play at the sexiest school but he's one heck of a player. Dunn can shoot the rock with the best of them. He might be one of the best shooters in the country who has a pro body. Expect this guy to be an impact player in this league whether he declares for the draft this year or next.
Charles Jenkins- Hofstra
Plays at a small time school but he's a big time player. He dropped 20+ points on Kansas and UConn this season and he's not afraid to mix it up with the big boys. He might be a 2nd round pick or undrafted but this kid has work ethic so expect him to make a spot into this league some how some way.
Sylven Landesburg- Virginia
He's stuck in hell on a terrible Virginia team but he sees the light in UOSLR. Landesburg is a natural 2 guard who can be an oversized PG. Think a long the lines of Penny Hardaway. He's not even near the potential player he could be and he's still silky smooth!
Austin Freeman- Georgetown
He looks like he wouldn't be a baller. He looks like he has asthma. He looks like he shouldn't be one step ahead of his defender. He doesn't look like he should have given that guy a facial. Guess what Freeman is pretty damn good basketball player who limits his mistakes and he's strong as hell.
Malcolm Lee- UCLA
He can score the rock with the best of them but he doesn't like to play too much defense. Got to take the good with the bad with Lee. For some reason I was getting him confused with Malcolm Grant* However Lee possesses many of the same qualities.
Quincy Pondexter- Washington
The super senior has had a storied career as a Huskie. He's a guy who does it all without really dominating the ball. He lets the game come to him but he isn't afraid to take control when needed. He should come in more polished than other guys and that doesn't mean he doesn't have more potential.
Jeremy Hazell- Seton Hall
They call him "Cab Driver" he's crazy. He has deep range and can create his own shot and get to the rim. It's a shame he's in such a shamble of a program because he's a really good basketball player. Can really change a game, just ask West Virginia. They were up 10 points with under a minute to go and Cab Driver scored 9 points in a matter of seconds to force the game into OT.
Robbie Hummel- Purdue
Catch and shoot, catch and shoot. He may struggle handling the ball somewhat but he could be the next Kyle Korver.
Marqus Blakely- Vermont
Another guy who doesn't get much national recognition but this guy is a BEAST! Maybe some of you might know him from winning the dunk contest this year for the NCAA but he's been dominating his conference for 4 years never shooting lower than 55% as a SF! He also nearly averaged double double. Think a poor man's Michael Beasley.
Lazar Hayward- Marquette
When you go to Marquette you know one thing about the player is the know how to work hard. Buzz Williams might be one of the most underrated coaches in college basketball and he gets the most out of his players and they leave with extremely good work ethic. Hayward is a double double waiting to happen. Think of a more perimeter oriented Dale Davis.
Ryan Wittman- Cornell
Maybe he finally got some national recognition this past season with Cornell's success (which I correctly predicted) but I've been seeing him torch nets for years. He's a crafty player who knows how to come off of screens. Think of Stephen Curry without the handle.
Da'Sean Butler- WVU
This guy is a warrior who doesn't mind being in the spotlight. He can shoot the ball deep from 3 while also possessing the strength to finish inside. He's along the lines of Sam Young but slightly more talented from the outside.
Tyler Smith- Tennessee
If only this kid had a good head on his shoulders the sky could be the limit. He's a freakish athlete but its all about Ty and not team. He could be the next Darius Miles or he could be the next Gerald Wallace.
Andy Rautins- Syracuse
Don't get fooled because he's a white guy who can shoot. Andy Rautins can handle the ball and cross you over too. He's also a very good passer. He reminds me a bit of Luke Walton but not as strong or as good of a rebounder and a much better shooter.
Chris Singleton- Florida St.
This guy could be the next Ron Artest on the defensive side of the ball. He's a guy you can play him any position just to defend the opposing team's best player. Singleton can steal the ball as well as block shots. Pretty valuable if you ask me.
Lavoy Allen- Temple
He's got some post moves but his biggest asset is his ability to block shots. He has a nice face up game too. He reminds me a lot of Theo Ratliff.
Trevon Booker- Clemson
Clemson was so foolish not to use this man more. He is a man child. When he got the ball he did whatever he wanted with it. If he got the ball in the paint the ball was going into the basket no question. He should woo scouts at camps because he's got serious game.
Trey Tompkins- Georgia
Great player bad team. Trey has a good amount of potential and he will only get better with more experience. He can score with an array of post moves in addition to flashing some 3 point range here and there. Don't be surprised to see this kid in a future all-star game
Vernon Macklin- Florida
He's a big man who likes to rebound the ball but tends to get lazy on the offensive end of things at times. He shows flashes of brilliance but its too far and few between. Huge boom or bust potential.
Derrick Williams- Arizona
Expect him to fly fly fly up draft charts. He might not declare this year but wow is this kid going to be good. He's got top 5 pick written all over him. Watch out for him seriously.
Rick Jackson- Syracuse
The unsung hero for Syracuse. Rick Jackson is a big man who can score, defend well in the post, and also distribute the ball very well. He kind of reminds me of a lefty Brad Miller. Finally someone compared a black guy to a white guy!
Luke Babbitt- Nevada
It's a sin not more people know about this kid from Las Vegas. (I'm sure Play does) but he's got skills and he's huge! Doesn't do much defensively but he can certainly score the basketball. We've seen Nevada produce some talent recently but Babbitt is definitely the best one yet.
Quincy Acy- Baylor
Quincy Acy has Amare like athleticism and loves to slam everything in sight. He will try to dunk over and through anyone or anything. Thats the reason he shoots at such a high percentage. He's also cocky as hell. Don't tell him he's not the best guy on the court because he might dunk you into the trash can.
Ryan Rossiter- Siena
The epidemy of hustle. Rossiter is always in the right place at the right time because he works damn hard on being there. He's the 2nd coming of Jeff Foster
Tasmin Mitchell- LSU
He can do a little bit of this and a little bit of that. He's a jack of all trades. Expect him to be a poor man's version of Lamar Odom when he comes into UOSLR. With the right attention and maybe a positional change he can be something special.
AJ Ogilvy- Vanderbilt
G'day mate. The man down under, not in the paint I mean Australia, has the post skills of Rik Smits. He's a big time body and has some surprising ups to him. He often gets the label of soft on the defensive end which hurts his stock big time.
Dexter Pittman- Texas
He's big, he's strong, he's a solid guy to have underneath for you. He doesn't do anything crazy good for you but he's solid. I expect him to be a very productive backup for a team for a very long time.
Herb Pope- Seton Hall
He's gotten shot 7 times, he's punched a guy in the nuts at least 4 times this season (no joke), and he's one hell of a rebounder. Can he be the Dennis Rodman of UOSLR? Only time will tell.
Chris Gaston- Fordham
Many people might not know this name but maybe you will soon. He's considering transferring from Fordham and teams are certainly lining up but he might just make the jump into UOSLR instead. He can score the rock in a plethora of ways and he's a very good rebounder.
Hassan Whiteside- Marshall
He's going to be the Randy Moss of Marshall for basketball. This guy is 7 foot and can score, rebound, and block shots like crazy. He's going to be Wang like good in UOSLR.
Hamady Ndiaye- Rutgers
He's another Diop. He blocks shots and thats about it. He's also shockingly good in NCAA March Madness for PS3
Aaric Murray- LaSalle
It was very surprising when he decided to commit to LaSalle when he could have played anywhere but Aaric Murray is a big time player. A McDonalds All-American out of high school who has a very high ceiling. Many scouts project him to fall lotto if he waits another year.
Omar Samhan- St. Mary's
One of the coolest dudes in college basketball. This guy has star written all over him. Why no one has had any buzz about him yet is beyond me. He could be a top 10 pick in this draft easy. How many big men can move and score like him. The answer is very few.
Dwayne Collins- Miami
This guy is a straight up bruiser. Think along the lines of an old school Charles Oakley. Send him in to do the dirty work and clean up the glass. He's a solid 5th starter or backup big man.
Jeff Foote- Cornell
He's huge, he's a little slow, he can shoot, he's strong he enough to survive in the post defensively. Think along the lines of Zydrunas Ilgauskas. It will be fun to see how good Foote can be in UOSLR.
Point Guard
Devan Downey- South Carolina
He's packs a big punch despite being pint sized. He is a one man show that can do it on both ends of the floor. He is a seriously pesky defender while also lighting it up in the scoring department. He honestly reminds me a bit of Allen Iverson.
