Sim 1 92-93 POWER RANKINGS
1. Washington Bullets - (7-1) - Solid performances from Hakeem Olajuwon and Vernon Maxwell. Dream averaging 35 and 12 boards with 2 blocks, trying to make another run at MVP. Not to mention how good this team is playing defensively with allowing 89.3 points per game, and also averaging 105.6 points per game.
2. Toronto Raptors - (4-0) - One man, Michael Jordan. 56FG%, 90FT% and 53% from 3. Also has Horace Grant averaging 21 pts and 11 boards a game. Solid regular season team, may need some additional help to win a championship.
3.Charlotte Hornets - (5-2) - What a turnaround from last season, with the addition of Mashburn and Mourning, this team is going to be great for seasons to come, would of been higher at #1 or 2 if they did not get dominated by the Timberwolves.
4.Golden State Warriors - (4-1) - Brad Daugherty scoring 31.2 points and grabbing 10 boards has sure helped this team be ranked this high. Others need to step it up for them to keep this pace up. Ranked 2nd in defensive points allowed as well.
5.Los Angeles Lakers - (6-2) - It's a bit early to tell if this team is actually legit but their play this early in the season shows that they deserve to be this high in the power rankings. Not to mention the play of Michael Adams performing greatly with 25 points and 10 assists, and also grabbing 6 rebounds has them this high.
6.Seattle Supersonics - (4-0) - Solid play from Payton and Drazen who was a steal in the free agency. Drazen averaging 24.5 points, solid for a team making a push for the playoffs. Solid overall team defense from this team as well, letting up 87.5 points per game. Lets see if they can keep it up.
7.Portland Trailblazers - (5-1) - Great defensive team. All their starters have at least an A- on defensive rating. Not to mention they are league leading team in points allowed at 82.5 points per game. Although their schedule strength isn't top teir with only 1 game against a team over .500 against the Bullets.
8.Phoenix Suns - (5-3) - Great turnaround so far for a team that was one of the worst in the leagues last season. Laettner doesn't seem to be a bust so far, putting up 13 points and 8 boards in 27 minutes. Coleman is doing good as well with 23.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. Hopefully Coleman can carry this team into the playoffs.
9.Detroit Pistons - (5-3) - Tough decision to put them 9th or 8th since Phoenix and Detroit have the same record. Glen Rice is nicely pulling this team together and he needs Mark Price to step up in scoring as well for them to be playoff contenders.
10.Sacramento Kings - (4-2) - Kings over the Knicks? Well yes. They have yet to play one game at home and are 4-2, which is good. With a surprising explosion of production from Danny Manning who have been been unproductive for the last two seasons, has now produced 21.7 points and 11.5 rebounds to show the league he's capable of being a star. Not to mention with the help of Ron Harper as well producing 26.0 points a game.
11.New York Knicks - (5-4) - Knicks has been 5-0 at home and 0-4 on the road. They need to step up their game away from Madison Square Garden. They also need additional help from other players as well and stop relying on Reggie Miller to do all the scoring. Miller has been producing well at 26 points a game.
12.Cleveland Cavaliers - (4-3) - Good team, Nick Anderson surge of scoring surely helps them win games. Nice one-two punch in Anderson and Chapman can surely help this team make a run in the playoffs. Though they need Kemp to step it up big time for them to be championship calibre team.
13.Chicago Bulls - (5-4) - Veteran team that could get it done. Bird averaging 20 a game and Woolridge as well. Lets wait and see how this team does.
14.Boston Celticvs - (2-2) - Larry Nance and Jeff Hornacek keeping this team in playoff hopes. Out in the tough East, who knows what may happen, certainly they do not hope the same fate as last year with them just missing out the playoffs by half a game.
15.Los Angeles Clippers - (4-4) - With injury to Wayman Tisdale, The Clippers are certainly looking for other players to step it up and score. Though they are struggling on the defensive end as well, letting up 1 point more than they score overall.
16.Houston Rockets - (2-1) - Kevin Johnson with a nasty average of 14 assists per game is a league leader in assists for the time being. However he is also averaging 6 turnovers which is ridiculous for a PG of his calibre. However they are leading the league in points overall as a team at 109.7 points per game.
17.Orlando Magic - (4-5) - Struggling out in the tough Eastern Conference. However Pippen is doing nicely for them and letting the league know that he deserves MVP considerations for carrying this not so talented team into playoff contention.
18.Denver Nuggets - (4-3) - They may have a winning record now, though this team can fall. Lets see if this team wants to tank and go for Shaq or will they try to contend for the playoffs.
19.Milwaukee Bucks - (3-5) - Some said PJ Brown would be a bust, so far so good. 11.8 points and 9 boards with 1 block a game. Tim Hardaway has been carrying the load for this team. Though word has said he's been complaining about the lack of talent in his teammates to help him out.
20.Dallas Mavericks - (3-4) - New GM and wants to rebuild. We will see this team lower in rankings as the season progresses possibly. Though Blackman isn't helping his cause in rebuilding by averaging 29 points a game.
21.Philadelphia 76ers - (3-5) - David Robinson averaging 27.4 points and 13.5 rebounds. He's screaming for help in Philly. As well as Philly fans knocking out the opponent fans to help this team win 3 games.
22.Utah Jazz - (3-5) - They are looking to trade Sabonis to lose and try to get Shaq, Webber or Penny Hardaway if they declare. Not much talent on this roster. Expect them to drop lower.
23.Miami Heat - (3-6) - Team has talent. Team also is in the tough Eastern Conference. Can't do much but hope to tank get somebody very talented to carry this team further into playoff contentions. Not to mention Dan Marjerle injury has affected them.
24.Atlanta Hawks - (2-5) - They firmly believed that Karl Malone could single handedly carry them into the playoffs, so far it's not looking too good.
25.San Antonio Spurs - (2-5) - Defending Champs. So lowly ranked, possibly because of their assistant general manager accepted the opening position in Dallas. Or possibly the rumors have their GM putting everybody on the trade block is effecting the team's play. However don't expect this team to stay this low for the entire season, they will find their groove and make a run for the playoffs.
26.Buffalo Braves - (1-7) - They always on a slow start and some how manage to sneak in at 8th for the playoffs. Though their PG situation isn't looking too good for them either. Lets see what Sir Charles Barkley and Mitch Richmond can do for this team.
27.Minnesota Timberwolves - (1-5) - Young team with no veteran leaders aside from Kevin Willis. Don't expect them to do much.
28.Indiana Pacers - (1-7) - They have lost a lot of close games. They got the talent to be the playoffs. They'll probably rise in the rankings as the season progresses like the Spurs.
29.Vancouver Grizzlies - (0-6) - New GM, as their old one abandoned them. Their new GM has gotten their pick back for a chance at Shaq, Webber and Penny Hardaway. Though Doc Rivers and Brian Shaw are screaming to get away from Vancouver as this team slowly gets worse. Don't expect them to move from this ranking at all.
