Agreed. Also Tiger, name your preferred England starting XI for the World Cup...Not what you think it will be (ie. Hesey may very well start), but what you'd prefer it to be. For me...
First XI
-----------------Hart------------------
--Johnson--Terry--Ferdinand--Cole--
-Lennon--Gerrard--Lampard--Barry-
------------Rooney--Defoe
Second XI
-----------------Green----------------
-Carragher--King--Upson--Warnock-
---Milner--Carrick--Cole--Johnson---
-----------Crouch---Heskey-----------
The only subs I'd be using from the second XI would be King, Milner, Cole and the two strikers...and maybe Adam Johnson.
I don't really know about a preferred lineup for me. I just can't see Defoe and Rooney as a good enough partnership. If I were playing FIFA I'd have something like this:
-----------------Green------------------
--Johnson--Terry--Ferdinand--Ashley Cole--
-Lennon--Lampard--Gerrard-----Wright-Phillips (Walcott if he were there)
-----------------Joe Cole----------------
-----------Rooney---------------------
or
-----------------Green------------------
--Johnson--Terry--Ferdinand--Ashley Cole--
-------Barry--Lampard--Gerrard----------
--Lennon-----------------------Joe Cole-----
-----------------Rooney------------------
And I say that because on FIFA I like fast wingers so Lennon and SWP/Walcott would be just that, then there's a creative player in Joe Cole supporting Wayne. And the second team there I like because there's attacking forwards cutting in. The thing is, in real life, football plays so much more differently. We have all seen Lampard and Gerrard in the middle fucking it up, so who knows if they'll be able to play together successfully even now. And I really don't think Rooney as a lone striker is wise in real life because he needs to play off a target man like Heskey or Crouch.
I honestly think the key to our team is Rooney, and we need to get the best out of him, without doubt. So knowing the way football works in real life, I'd really want us to get the best out of Wayne. That said, I'd probably have Crouch or Heskey up front with Rooney to act as a target man and let Wayne play off them. I'd drop Joe Cole and have Gerrard on the wide left... although I don't think that's his best position.
It's a tough one. Every English striker not named Wayne Rooney just isn't good enough imo. Rooney's a top 3 player in the world, but he's best when he's playing in a front 2, not as a lone striker, and nobody else in the England team stacks up imo.
