Detriot (AP) - The Detriot Pistons have had a surprisingly great season so far. After new general manager Mike The Great took over this team has been on fire. The Pistons are one of the best defensive teams and score more than 10ppg then they allow a game. The Pistons choose the 7'7 monster Gheorghe Muresan in the 1992 draft. They matched Muresan and Longley in the post to have the tallest and one of the most formidable front courts with Longley and Muresan. Muresan is having a great rookie season picking up 11ppg, 8rpg and 1bpg with a good field goal percentage. Longley is a having a great season so far averaging 13ppg, 10rpg and 2bpg. People were skeptical of the Pistons having two 7 footers in the lane because they would just be to slow to stop skinnier and more athletic bigs, but the giants have proved the skeptics wrong and have been playing great together.
Gheorghe Muresan has been a great addition to the Pistons
Glen Rice is easily the MVP of the Pistons and possibly the league averaging 31ppg and leading the Pistons to a record of 27-7. Before the season started we all knew that Rice was one of the best scorers in the league, but he stepped up his defense tremendously and became one of the most balanced and best players in the league. The Pistons major weakness coming into the season was SG, and in free agency they were able to sign a great defender, Jerry Reynolds, to the MLE. No one expected Reynolds to score including the Pistons organization, but Reynolds knew in order to keep his job he will have to do more then just defend, and now he is averaging a career high 11ppg. Mark Price was coming into the season as a #2 option averaging a great 18ppg last season, but this season he has fallen back. The Pistons thought Price would have a another excellent scoring season, but they were wrong instead he is averaging a career high 10apg and became a true PG.
Is Glen Rice MVP worthy?
The Pistons only major weakness is the player coach relationship. The Pistons head coach Michael Curry Senior said multiple times that he is not getting the respect he deserves. Glen Rice is a great player but his ego does get the best of him, and has been known as a difficult player to coach. Curry has accused Rice of verbally and physically abusing him, and says that he will press charges if he was ever replaced. Rice has also said that if Curry stays he won't resign with the Pistons during free agency. This will be an interesting free agency for the Pistons, but I am sure they will choose the player over the coach.
Is this Michael Curry's last season as the Detriot Pistons head coach?
