Ok the Season is drawing to an end and well I thought Id do a 3/4 Season Award Article using the End of Season outline. Take a look and see what you think!!
ATLANTIC DIVISION
Most Valuable Player:
SG Andre Iguodala Magic
Andre Iguodala takes out the Atlantic Divisions MVP title behind his 38.7 mins 28.3 pts 5.8 rebs 2.7 assts 2.4 stls 1.6 TOs. He won player the 1st player of the week honours for the season and hasn’t looked back. His Orlando Magic currently top the Atlantic Division with a 43-22 record and look to be one of the favourites in the east. Hes been with the Magic four seasons now and primed to lead the Magic all the way to the promised land. He is amongst the league leaders in scoring and steals with Shaunkol saying Iggy should be in the 1st team UOSLR this season. Lets hope his wish is realized!! He beat out strong challenges from Deron Williams of the 76ers (23 pts, 5 rebs and 9 assts) and the young phenom Perry Jones of the Knicks (27 pts, 9 rebs, 2 assts).
Defensive Player:
PF Josh Smith – Magic
I had to go with Josh Smith from the Magic here. Josh Smith is averaging a league leading 4 blocks a game to go along with his 1.5 stls and 9.7 rebounds a game. This was tough because the Atlantic division is stacked with defensive talent down low. Of the top 10 shot blockers in the league, the Atlantic has 5 of them swatting shots and causing mayhem in the block. Shaunkol thinks JSMoove is having a career year, and he could be right. Nene Hilario (11 rebs, 3 blks, 1.2 stls) made a strong case for this spot along with Eddie Griffin who averaged 3.2 blocks, 10 rebs and 0.6 stls but were pipped at the post.
Rookie Award:
PG Quinn Cook Knicks
The Rookie leader for the Atlantic Division goes to Quinn Cook. He has just picked up the latest Rookie of the Month award and comes in averaging 34mins 12 pts, 3 brds, 6 asst and 1.9 stls on the season. Cook is a pure pg who is very quick and looks after the ball well. The knock on him was that he wasn’t a very good scorer and a bit on the small side. That has not deterred his game and with the likes of Perry Jones, Sean Williams, Blake Griffin and Jason Richardson doing all the scoring, Cook has been able to concentrate on getting them the ball and trying to make stops in the back court. He beat out challenge a strong challenge from DJ Richardson of the Bullets who has shocked a lot of people around the league.
Sixth Man:
C Joel Pryzbilla Nets
6th man for me goes to the big man from New Jersey. This 33 year old is in his 14th UOSLR season and is still putting up very good numbers. He is playing behind Paul Millsap and Derrick Favors at PF and C averaging 5pts, 8 rebs, 1.5 assts and a team leading 3.3 blocks at 25 mins a game!! Those 3.3 blocks are good enough for tied 6th in the league.
All Atlantic First Team
C Eddy Curry Celtics
PF Josh Smith Magic
SF Perry Jones Knicks
SG Andre Iguodala Magic
PG Deron Williams 76ers
This is my lineup for the Atlantic Division!! Very scary indeed. It was a close call between Curry and Sean Williams but I went for the guy with the 310lb frame. This is a pretty good starting 5 if you don’t mind me saying. Curry is a big body who is averaging 24 pts, 11 rebs and 1 block on the season and is a pretty good compliment for Smith who is the more defensive minded of the two. Perry Jones can do it all and has had a great season with the Knicks and looks to be a Superstar of the future. Iguodala and Williams make up the back court and are two guys that can do it all. They rarely turn the ball over and are very durable players. Dirk was not considered due to his injury...
All Atlantic Defensive Team
C Sean Williams Knicks
PF Josh Smith Magic
SF Perry Jones Knicks
SG Andre Iguodala Magic
PG Deron Williams 76ers
As for the defensive team, its basically the same apart from Sean Williams coming in at C with his 3.3 blocks a game. Iguodala leads the Atlantic in steals with 2.4 stls a game and Deron chimes in with 1.5 stls as well for the back court. Deron Williams also leads all pgs with 5.6 rebounDs a game to help cement his place in the Atlantic defensive team. Perry Jones collectes 9 rebs a game and has 1.2 stls with 1.4 blks a game. I could have chosen Andrei Kirilenko at SF but he has been playing PF this season and wont unseat Josh Smith for that spot. The beauty of the Atlantic is that they have players that can do everything and aren’t 1 or 2 dimensional, apart from the Centre position hehe
All Atlantic Rookie Team
C Carson Desrosiers Bullets
PF Myers Leonard Magic
SF Rodney Williams Bullets
SG DJ Richardson Bullets
PG Quinn Cook Knicks
Thank the heavens above for the Bullets and their rookies lol. Myers Leonard is the only player in this 5 that hasn’t played much this season. Carson has averaged 10 minutes in 53 appearances and averaged 2 pts and 3 rebs on 48% shooting. Rodney Williams has primarily been used off the bench this season but has been given a chance to start these last few sims. He is averaging 23 mins a game with returns of 4 pts and 3 rebs a game. The two standout players in this division are DJ Richardson and Quinn Cook. Richardson started off the season as the starting SG but Don has seen something in this youngster to give him the ball and lead ths young team. He is putting up solid numbers with 18 pts, 5 rebs and 4 assts whilst leading his team in minutes with 37 a game. Finally we have Cook who is showing the league he is a player to watch!! He has helped his team to a 36 and 25 record behind his 12pts, 6 assts and 1.7 stls a game. Very promising crop of youngsters for the Atlantic division!!
Central Division
Most Valuable Player:
SF Lebron James Hornets
This could have gone to any one of 5 players in this division. Dwayne Wade (28 pts, 7 rebs, 4 assts, 2.5 stls on 46% shooting), Michael Redd (22pts, 6 rebs, 7 assts, 1.7 stl on 46% shooting), Evan Turner (23pts, 8 rebs, 4.5 asst, 1.6 stls on 47% shooting) or Rudy Gay (28pts, 7 rebs, 5 assts, and 1.4 stls on 47% shooting). However there is one player who has garnered two player of the Month awards already and is head and shoulders above anyone else. That players is Lebron James, who is averaging 31 pts, 9 rebs, 4 assts, nearly 3 stls on 45% shooting. His Hornets have been on a tear this 2nd half of the season going 14 – 6 and still a chance at making the playoffs. He is amongst the league leaders in minutes played, scoring, steals, FG attmpts, FT and 3pt attempts and 3pt FG%. His team may not be in the playoffs but hes definitely pushing them for a spot.
Defensive Player:
C Darko Milicic Pacers
I would have put Lebron or Dwade there but I like Big Men and their shot blocking so I have gone for Donnie Darko Milicic who has been the Pacers Defensive stalwart for years now and with his improved scoring ability has become a more well rounded player. He is averaging 17 pts, 11 rebs nearly 1 stl and 3.4 blks a game helping the Pacers keep their opponents to 98 pts a game. Tyson Chandler would have been considered had he not been injured..
Rookie Award:
SG Tomas Satoransky Detroit
Rookie award has to go to Tomas Satortansky. He has had a solid start to his UOSLR campaign and looks like a player for the future. He is averaging 12 pts, 5 rebs and 2 assts in 29 minutes for the Pistons. He needs work on his defense but looks like he has the pot for more growth. Other players that were worthy of a shot here were Dexter Strickland, Mason Plumlee and Patric Young, but they were not asked to produce straight away like Tomas was.
Sixth Man :
C Joakim Noah Cavs
6th man is Joakim Noah of the Cleveland Cavs!!! Noah has been great off the bench for the Cavs. He has been playing behind Brook Lopez and Ed Davis providing scoring, rebounding and defense whenever he called upon. He is averaging 23 minutes, 6.8 pts, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game for the Cavs and could start if needed. Other noteables where Wang Zhizhi for the Bulls who averaged 23 mins, 9 pts and 6 rebounds off the bench as well as his Chinese compatriot Yi Jianlian who is playing on the Pacers and averaging 6.8 pts, 6 rebs and 2 assts a game. Cisse would have
been considered had he not started for the Bullets.
All Central First Team
C Al Jefferson Bulls
PF David Lee Pacers
SF Lebron James Hornets
SG Dwayne Wade Bucks
PG Michael Redd Pacers
What a starting lineup!! Al Jefferson is a monster down low averaging 21 pts, 11 rebs and 2.8 blocks a game on 46 % shooting. He is partnered alongside David Lee who has proven he belongs with the elite PFs in the game. He is averaging 23 pts a game, 10 rebounds and a steal to go along with his 49% shooting. Lebron James comes in at SF and needs no explanation, Rudy Gay is unfortuntate to miss out but James just cant be beat. Dwayne Wade, if he was in any other division would have come away with the MVP honours but being in the same division as Lebron, it just wasnt meant to be. I mean 28 pts, 7 rebs, 4.7 assts and 2.5 stls a game would win anyone the MVP, but not if you are in the same Division as Lebron. Rounding out the 5 is Michael Redd, with these ratings C A+ C+ B C D , you wouldnt think anything of it, but his production is amongst the best in the league. He shoots the ball remarkably well, protects it and is able to find the right position to rebound as well, his 22 pts, 6 rebs, 7 assts, 1.7 stls and 1.6 TOs are evidence of his effectiveness. I do believe this lineup would be very hard to beat!! Kelenna Azubiuke was not considered due to his injury..
All Central Defensive Team
C Darko Milicic Pacers
PF Trey Thompkins Raptors
SF Travis Leslie Bucks
SG Evan Turner Hornets
PG Michael Redd Pacers
I thought Id try and go with players that werent already mentioned in the 1st team category. Lebron and Wade can easily be slotted in here and they wouldnt miss a beat. I however decided to go with 3 youngsters at SG, SF and PF. Darko comes in as the center with his 11 rebs, 3.4 blks, .9 stls and just overall presence down low. At PF I went with Trey Thompkins who has been a stellar defender for the Raptors, leading his team in blocks and rebounds as well as getting 1 steal a game. Travis Leslie comes in at SF at the expense of Lebron who thought he would let the youngster in. Leslie has played most of this season at SF, but shuffled to PF when Chandler went down injured. He has had a pretty good season with 8 rebounds, 1.4 stls and 1.8 blks a game. Lebrons fellow Hornet, Evan Turner comes in at SG in place of Wade. Turner has had a stellar season playing alongside Lebron, putting up great numbers averaging 8 rebounds at the SG position to go along with his 1.6 stls and 1 block a game. Rounding out the 5 is Michael Redd who shows he can do it all, his rebounding at 6 per game leads all PGs and he also manages 1.6 steals a game...
All Central Rookie Team
C Mason Plumlee Raptors
PF Patric Young Hawks
SF Karron Johnson Hornets
SG Thomas Satoransky Pistons
PG Dexter Strickland Cleveland
This rookie lineup is similar to the Atlantic Division in that its strength lies in its back court. They are pretty solid in their own right with Dexter Strickland starting for the Cavs and averaging 6 pts, 7 assts, 1.2 stls and only 2 Tos. With some time to develop he could be a solid PG in the future. His back court partner Tomas Satoransky is this groups rookie of the year and will be looked upon to take on the scoring load for these youngsters. Karron Johnson hasnt even been selected for Charlottes Depth chart but has found himself in games for the Hornets, playing in 53 games averaging 16 minutes with 3.9 pts and 4 rebs a game. He needs to get out of Charlotte if he wants to have any future in the league. Patric Young for the Hawks has been playing back up PF and has shown alot of promise with the limited minutes he has been getting. In only 17 minutes a game, Young has been averaging 5 pts and 5 rebs whilst shooting 48% from the field, imagine if he had a chance to start he could be putting up some solid numbers. Rounding out the the starting lineup is Mason Plumlee, he has had the luxury of playing back up SF / PF and C for the Raptors putting up solid numbers playing behind Hayward, Thompkins and Pittman. A very decent lineup and it would be interesting to see how Stickland and Satoransky will go against Cook and Richardson.
Thats it for the Eastern Conference, I will try and get a Western Conference one up before the end of the week!! Enjoy and remember these are my thoughts so let your thoughts be known!!!!
