Centers
Corie Blount is the standout from the remaining Centers in the draft. He’s a good scorer and defender, plus a solid rebounder. His ceiling will probably have him top out as a good back-up. Mid-1st is his probable range.
Ervin Johnson comes straight out of college with ratings to help a team contribute right away. He can defend and rebound well, which a lot of teams can always use. Taking him before the twenties is probably a bad choice.
Luther Wright has a lot of size and will block some shots for the team that selects him. He’s a subpar rebounder and will probably top out around B-. Expect him to improve a little and become a good rotation guy. Late lotto selection.
Ed Stokes is very similar to a Luther Wright, but with less of a ceiling. He may become a good 8th man, but don’t expect too much. Definitely late-1st to 2nd Round pick.
Power Forwards
Vin Baker is flying under the radar this year, but he had a great year at Hartford. Baker can score and rebound very well, and he’s working on his defense. Scouts are up and down on him, some say he’s reached his peak, while others speculate he could be a very good starter some day. Boom or bust type pick, but still a lotto selection nonetheless.
Dino Radja may scare a few teams away with his age, but he has some serious game. This Croat can definitely play. He’ll make immediate impact for a team and will probably be a good player in this league for a long time. Late-lotto to mid-1st selection.
Toni Kukoc, like his friend and teammate Dino, is a little older than the rest of the pack, but he’s more polished because of it. Kukoc is a dynamic forward that is a scorer above all else. He’s a solid rebounder that could be a promising 6th man one day. Probably a mid-1st selection.
Bo Outlaw is a PF in a SF’s body. He has no outside game to speak of, but he is a good defender and can score on the inside a bit. He needs to work on his rebounding, but he should have a long career as a good back-up. Probably a mid-1st to late-1st selection.
Small Forwards
Byron Russell is a guy that may intrigue a lot of teams. He comes right out of college looking like a pretty good player, and he is, but don’t expect him to become an All-Star anytime soon. He’s a decent scorer and a great defender, so expect him to become a starter in this league at some time. Late-lotto selection.
Rodney Rogers brings a big frame to the SF position, much like Larry Johnson did two years before; however, he is nowhere near that level of play. Right now he’s a decent scorer and a decent defender, but some scouts say he may become a pretty good 6th or 7th man some day, so keep an eye on him. Mid-1st to late-1st selection.
Leonard White is an interesting guy. He can kind of score, but can’t defend to save his life. However, he’s a great rebounder, especially for his size. Some scouts say he has a “Rodman-esque” ability to rebound. Who knows how many teams may value that, but that’s got to mean something. Late-1st to 2nd-Round selection.
George Lynch is a solid player that should see some time off the bench in his career. He can defend, and is working on his rebounding. He may become a good roleplayer, but there are questions about his potential. Late-1st to 2nd-Round selection.
Shooting Guards
Calbert Cheaney is another under-the-radar guy. Some say if it weren’t for the large number of underclassmen declaring, he’d have gotten more attention. He can definitely score, and can even defend. Should get the attention of late-lotto teams, at least. Expect him to go mid-1st.
Giorgos Salas, the Greek wonder, has decided to throw his name into the UOSLR Draft. He’s quite an international prospect, and knows quite a few fellow international prospects personally. He’d be very eager to play with one or more of them. He can score very well and scouts are really high on him, but it’s questionable if his game will translate well enough to land him a starting spot. Mid-1st to late-1st selection.
Rex Walters comes out as one of the best outside shooters, other than Allan Houston. His sharpshooting skills should be intriguing to team looking for a nice combo-guard off the bench. Late-1st to 2nd Round selection.
Terry Dehere is a former Big East POY that scouts were high on until he began working out for teams on the professional level. He has a solid game right now, but after the workouts, scouts questioned his potential. He may still be a solid back-up one day. Late-1st to 2nd Round slection.
Point Guards
Ignacio Rodriguez is a Spanish wizard with the basketball. He’s fast and has great ball-handling ability. He’s also a very tough on-ball defender. Many scouts are high on his work ethic. Probably a late-lotto to mid-1st selection.
Bobby Hurley is one of the greatest PGs in college basketball history, but some scouts whether he’ll have the ability to translate into a great pro-player. He has amazing court vision and a pretty nice jump shot. He should see a good amount of minutes his rookie year. Mid-1st selection.
Lindsey Hunter has proven that he’s a very hard worker. Scouts are impressed with his effort on the court. Many say that, just because the way his game is shaped, he won’t become a starter in the league, but the general consensus is he’ll be invaluable off the bench as a combo-guard. A very good shooter and defender. Mid-1st to late-1st selection.
Adonis Jordan rounds out the list. He comes out of college with nice ratings but questionable upside. He’s comparable to a poor man’s Bobby Hurley of this draft. Will probably see time as a back-up for his career. Late-1st to 2nd Round selection.
