teams offer these huge deals knowing they are too much. I would rather 7 year max Wall than lose him. not to mention the approaching CY forces a lot of teams hands. the attitude that I would rather overpay and at least get something, rather than underpay and get nothing, isn't something you can make a rule on. This kind of underlies my point. Having a player you don't want to lose him to some "idiot" offering a max. So it forces your hand to max. We could have a max just lowering the percentage of the cap the VET max is. Is it regulating stupidity? Yes a bit but its good for more reasons than one. BIG PICTURE 1. Without these lofty deals we'll see increased trade activity 2. Less teams flirting with the hard cap but only teams with Birds can offer ridiculious contracts... the Vet Max with no max is a reasonable deal, 6 years, ranging from 15750000 to 23750000 now, as GM you have to know this if you have birds on a player, start them out at like 20 million, and offer lower raises...there is no reason to offer up a full max that ends up north of 30 million by the end

The amount of contracts that go over 20 million in this league tickle me. I say this with LeBron on my roster.

Most Gms dont have a clear understanding of what theyre offering when they offer these contracts. If someone could develop a list of contracts that actually show what a full MAX starting at 17 million is, I think more Gms would be smarter with their offers.
