Welcome to the first ever Tiger’s Den. I tried to get some questions together that allowed people to shed light on their own team at first, and then talk about the league, trying to get specific opinions and being a little controversial at times. For Ashes I changed the team-specific questions to league-specific ones. I’ve added my own comments here or there too, just for the hell of it. Hopefully you all enjoy the read.
Oh, and thanks to Trunks, Ashes, Don, Shaun, JAH, csdude and crazymike for participating because they all got their answers in on time and they were all great. Krup wasn’t.
1a) How do you feel about the state of your team at the moment?
Trunks
I feel that this team can repeat as a championship team. I made some offseason moves and almost changed my team but i feel we can still compete for the title. It might be a little hard but i feel we can do it, only team I think that can compete against me in the West are the Vancouver Grizzlies.
Donatello2424
Decent. I like how my team is set up but I do have some major holes. I feel I am one of the top teams in the east, but not THE top team. Davis/webber/barkley/lewis/nique/pooh is a very solid 6 man rotation, but when you have to go up against a team like the Heat who is just sick, it makes it harder to do well.
shaunkol
Right now I actually feel pretty good about my team. We have some real nice young talent in Rasheed Wallace, Antawn Jamison and Stephon Marbury. Billy Owens is playing great and we still have some picks to make our team better. I’m hoping in 2-3 years we will be competing for a ring.
Jahallstar
I'm not thrilled but it is getting better. I need to bring some more young talent in. I think I got very good value for Hawkins. Now DC and maybe Laet need to find new homes.
csdude07
It sucks that I'm losing right now but I feel like my team should be a lot better. I have great scorers and defenders on my team, but it's not clicking. I think that if I can figure out the right depth chart, my team has a great chance to contend. I dunno what to do about defense though...I have so many people with great defensive ratings, yet my team is not playing that way. Hopefully when I get my offense right it will fix my defense.
krup
The Bucks are a wild bunch who are collectively growing as a unit. I think everyone is starting to fall into their niche and we're quickly becoming one of the most fundamentally sound and athletic teams out there. We have about 4 go to guys on this team who can all hit the last shot. If you want to press us we'll beat you inside or make our FT. If you want to sit back on us then we'll make it rain. Also we're young so we are going to be doing this for a long time. Watch out! We think we're going to win it all this year, next year, and the year after.
crazymike2023
I love the way my team is looking. I mean there still more to be done but at the time its looking good. Got some young guys that are just going to get better.
1b) How do you feel about the state of the league at the moment?
Ashes
I feel the league is thriving right now. For the most part, every GM is very active and capable. A few stragglers here or there, but that’s to be expected. I like the overall activity of the league, but naturally it could be better. The Lakers franchise has struggled throughout its existence, but the new guy seems pretty promising. Hopefully he keeps it up and helps tie up a loose end in the league.
2a) What does the future hold for your team? What's your plan for the next 3-5 seasons?
Trunks
This team currently has a decent future. Jason Kidd and Allan Houston might hold up the fort for a while, though we might be forced to rebuild with Ewing being over 35. So possibly in 3-5 seasons, we would be rebuilding.
Donatello2424
My future sucks. Webber and Pollard are my two young pieces, so that can’t be good. I guess in the future I hope that I will be able to trade Webber for a decent package of some youth and then when my old farts retire, I can finally do a proper rebuild, which I never was able to do.
shaunkol
Probably make this my last real rebuilding year. Im not sure of the Contract Year situation but I’d imagine im getting pretty close to the deadline. My team is young, so hopefully in 3-5 years I will have one of the better teams in the league. As long as my players don’t bolt in Free Agency, cough cough, Penny “Turncoat” Hardaway, we should be fine.
Jahallstar
Well I hate rebuilding. My hopes are that I can add a stud youngster with one of my picks. I think I already have several good role player youngsters. I'm hoping that maybe Mobley and Taylor could end up #2 and #3 options for me and I can add either a star young C or SF to be the go to guy.
csdude07
I traded away some of the future by letting Houston go, so if I do not win a ship in the next few years I will have to rebuild completely again. That may mean sending Shaq away, even though he is only 26 and has been a monster for some time. Or I could just keep Shaq and try to draft some nice pieces around him, who knows.
krup
I can tell already you're no Jeremy Schaap. Didn't I just answer this question? Weren't you listening to me? Do I have to go Artie Lang on your ass? I can tell this Tiger's Den is going to make me change the channel faster than anytime I see Rome is Burning.
Tigertecz: Krup, who the fuck is Jeremy Schaap? And if you just answered this question, then you’re a douche because the previous question didn’t ask about your future, THIS one did. Any more cheek like this and you can STFU and GTFO!
crazymike2023
WIN WIN WIN. That's my plan. It's a easy one. Hoping around 3 or 4 season form now I'll have my first title in UOSLR.
2b) What does the future hold for the league? What's your plan for the next 3-5 seasons? Any big surprises, new concepts, draftees having overseas buyout clauses or something like that?
Ashes
The future will be pretty exciting as the drafts get more and more filled with familiar faces. The drafts will definitely hold more surprises with guys like Pau Gasol, Yao Ming, etc. As far as any future concepts introduced, I honestly can’t say. I’ve always loved the thought of a development league and was going to introduce one in UOSL2 before it ended, so who knows what I have in store? I put a lot of work into the league, so there’s always the possibility of new and exciting things.
Tigertecz: Sounds good Ashes, keeping it all under wraps though lol.
3a) If you could swap teams with any other in the league, which would you take and why?
Trunks
I would swap teams with the Cavs. They have a good team but there coaching and GMing skills are a bit questionable. They have quality players and with that team, they should be competing out for #1 in the East but they somehow fail to do so. Though if another GM was controlling it, (me), i think they would be able to win a title or more.
Donatello2424
It is either the Heat or the Blazers, but I will go with the Heat. I love their team. They have great wing scorers and defenders, a post man who can do everything, and a passing point, and a defensive/rebounding big man. They have some age on them, but they also have Kobe…so they win.
shaunkol
Oh man, give my the Blazers. Now that he got the #1 pick, he’s guarenteed to win the title. It would be the only reason pretty much …. Relax outlaw and ashes, im fuckin around. In all seriousness, he can go on autopilot and they should still have a shot at a dynasty.
Jahallstar
Jazz...They suck and I could build them like I want to. And nobody would be able to say I won with somebody else's team!
csdude07
The Heat. They are 11-1 and are contenders. That's what I want, to win a championship. Also, they have Kobe who looks really nice at age 19.
krup
If I could hypothetically swap teams I'd probably choose the NY Knicks because it pains to see them underachieve year after year. The people of NY deserve better. I'm glad they finally shipped off Reggie Miller so he can try and win a championship. At least they did something right for once. It's going to be a long couple of years for a lot of angry Knick fans. Can't wait to hear who they boo on draft day...with the first overall pick the NY Knicks select Kwame Brown...oh boy!
crazymike2023
That's a hard one. I do love to trun teams around but I'm guesing your really asking what team I would like to win right away with. Really over all I would never swap with anyone but if I had to I would go with Seattle Supersonics. His team is killing people and is really still a young team over all, Who wouldn't want that?
3b) If you could GM any team which would you take and why?
Ashes
I’m having a hard time deciding between the Bucks and now the Blazers. They’ve both done outstanding jobs of assembling teams. The Bucks are very geared towards the future, yet have claimed it’s their time in the present even though that remains to be seen. The Blazers could quite possibly be the best team in the league right now and they still have Mourning and now KG who are young. I’d have to go with the Blazers.
Tigertecz: So it seems to be a tie between the Blazers and the Heat overall. I’ll finish it off with a vote for the Heat. Then trade Kobe for MJ and bring back the MJ – Pipp combo. DO IT!
4) In your eyes, who is the best player in the league right now and why?
Trunks
Michael Jordan hands down. That dude alone forced the Raptors into title contention every single year. Once Jordan retires, he will force the Raps into rebuilding mode, which could last decades.
Donatello2424
It is either Preira or Jordan. I like the fact that Preira can play 3 positions, but I have to go with MJ. He is just such a beast. He can score 20 ppg and be a terror on defense. Who cares if he is old, he is still a stud.
shaunkol
ETIENNE PREIRA. OH MY GOD. HAVE YOU SEEN HIS STATS? Yeah, about 50 million freakin times. He’s the league’s best player right now, but I definitely wish he wasn’t.
Jahallstar
Well if I could have any player in the league it would be Shaq. That being said you can't discard Etienne Preira. He is a great player, the reigning MVP and an all around superstar. He's the best player on arguably the best team in the league. 3 steals and 2 blocks a game is pretty sick too.
csdude07
Preira. He can do no wrong. He scores, rebounds, passes well, and gets steals and blocks. 3 spg and 2 bpg along with 8.5 rpg for a PG is insane.
krup
Well there are a few players who deserve mention for this honorary title as best player in the league right now. I can tell you that both Nick Anderson and Brent Barry don't get enough praise from anyone in the league because they are absolutely fucking...I can say fucking right? Absolutely fucking...but I thought you said I could say fucking. This isn't HBO? Bleep this. They bleeping fantastic. Michael Jordan is the best guard in the league though there is no denying this however he is outstaged by one individual. Kevin Johnson. KJ single handedly led his team to a losing record last season. I think its safe to say they would have lost even more games without him. The guy averaged 20ppg while only taking 75% of his team's shots. Not too shabby and to think for all that time he had the ball in his hands its amazing he only turned it over 4 times a game. Not many people could handle the burden of being the best player on a bad team.
Ashes
I know it’ll make you happy because I’m going to say Etienne Preira. I’m amazed how he developed from C+ C C+ C+ C+ C or whatever he was. Probably the most complete player in the game right now. A PG that can score, dish, rebound, defend, steal, block, and doesn’t turn it over much. So basically does everything well. You don’t see that often, if ever.
crazymike2021
I hate to say it but Shaquille O'Neal. 23.6 PPG 12.8 RPG 4.3 APG 1.2 SPG 3.1 BPG.What else can I say about a guy like that. He could take a bad team and make them in to an alright team.
Tigertecz: And Etienne Preira takes it over MJ. I don’t even need to add my vote :-) The current era sees MJ passing the torch over to Preira, and they always go head to head well in games, evident by this thriller: bballsim56.com/UOSLR/boxes/17-7.html
5) Who is the best GM in UOSLR and why? Round off a top 5 (the rest in no particular order) and feel free to explain why too.
Trunks
I can't say who's the best but if i had to choose i'd choose myself. I started with nothing in the creation draft, never won Lotto, had some high picks but the drafts weren't as strong as there were like the last 3 seasons. I've traded for all my guys that I have now and I don't seem to be doing a bad job of it. GMs that i think are amongst the best in UOSLR who have proven something are Grizzlies, only thing lucky thing they got is Shaq. Heat with Kobe but there other moves are crazy. The Blazers recently with the moves they have made. Some GMs haven't done shit and are waiting to luck out in the draft.
Donatello2424
I don’t think we have one GM who is head and heals above the rest. I do believe that we go through era’s of GM’s. First you mainly had me and Toronto burning it up, then the Hornets and the Grizz, and now the Heat.
So my top five, in no order, would be saga. He has done great with little more than MJ on his team. No one else really got that much attention and yet they won a ton of games.
Spencer did great. He got LJ and Zo, then used the picks he got via the creation draft and got Malone, and dominated.
The Heat GM has done great as well. Got Kobe, then traded for Malone. Malone is getting older, but he still has a great piece to build around with Kobe. He drafted a nice piece, then traded for the rest. You don’t see many teams going for a title like that anymore.
The Grizz. Luckily got Shaq and then just picked up solid pieces. However they are getting older and need to re-tool.
The T-wolves. Their team last year was mostly vet guys and they won a title with them. Yes they had Kidd, but they are doing what most teams aren’t, building through easily acquired vets. While most teams are looking for great youth, he went out and got aging, but good vets and won a title with them.
shaunkol
How about I separate them into teams that had the #1 pick and teams that didn’t. That’s really the only way to decide. SO:
#1 pick rankings:
1) Spencer … Outlaw … Csdude
Non #1 pick rankings:
1.Me … 2) Idle … only because he has my back in this debate
As Phil Helmuth says it best “If it wasn’t for luck, id win every time” … seems about right with me
Jahallstar
Well for this league It would have to be Spencer....This has been his best performance out of any I have seen him in. Got to give props to him for that. He has two titles in 3 trips to the finals.
As for 4 others...Saga has had Jordan the whole time. But he has been the most consistent team....Tiger has build something nice in a few seasons....Suprisingly Trunks has been very solid for the wolves .....And I just think Aar is a really good GM..
csdude07
No clue, but I'll go with the person who has combined timely trading and a little bit of luck, Outlawz. He brought the Blazers up from nothing. He was patient and was able to make some trades with the right teams, some semi-rapes, and then get a bit of luck in the lotto. Result? Zo, KG, Reggie, Payton, Jackson with Campbell and Rodman on the bench this year.
krup
Well I have to give credit where credit is due. Spencer has won 2 championships and could have won more if he didn't break it up which he didn't have to. He has to be put in that #1 spot for me. I don't want to hear that bullshit logic he got lucky. He had to do everything right to put himself into that position and then properly build around it. He constantly gets good value for guys and is always flipping and pawning off what he got more and more first round picks. I love the hustle and building of capital.
Other guys who are atop of the list for me. Trunks, Tiger, Outlawz, and myself. That is in no particular order. All of the above mentioned have built complete teams which are designed solely to win championships. All of them understand what is necessary to do in order to win and win year after year.
crazymike2021
This is not in order.
TheSchmaranz. His won a UoSLR title and still has a good team going in to this season. May be one of the team that could win it all this year.
Sagapolutele50. Has a UOSLR title. I mean alot would say its just because his got MJ but he had to put guys around him to win. Plus has done a good job doing that this year.
SdogBBS. This guy has done it all and done it great. Has two UOSLR titles. Did it by rebuilding at the start and making great trades. Plus is already starting to rebild and if its anything liek he did last time should be great.
Gotrunks226. Has had some great teams over the seasons. Has a title to show for it and is still one of the top teams in UOSLR.
Csdude07. I had to put him on the list. He took a team with no picks. That was old and really not winning. Nothing looking good for the team. Then After one season under him had them at the top of the west.
Ashes
I can’t really come up with a definitive best. I’ll do a top 5 in no particular order, but only based on what they’ve done in UOSLR. I’d have to throw Spencer, Saga, Gotrunks, theschmaranz, and csdude. They’ve all done excellent jobs, with csdude being the only one minus a ring, but the job he’s done with the shit Cwizz left him with has been incredible. I’d actually probably have to put Spencer at #1 since he has two titles out of all of them.
Tigertecz: mixed reactions here but you gotta you’re your respect to the only two time champ in the league, and that’s Spencer. I don’t care for stuff like luck like winning the lotto because at the end of the day, you have to build around that player and still put the pieces into place to be successful. I also think he could’ve had a dynasty if he kept it together though, and having Charlotte Hornets****** might’ve looked better lol.
6) Who is the most underrated GM in UOSLR and why?
Trunks
Maybe Jahallstar, he always has a good team but never does shit. I don't think he's made more than 1 significant trade, he just sits around a lot, picking small pieces here and there. Since he doesn't post a lot either, he just flies under the radar.
Donatello2424
Not to be cocky but I would say me. My team has consistently made the playoffs and i have never really rebuilt my team.
shaunkol
Hmm good question … ill go with Trunks. He does a very solid job, and doesn’t make many mistakes. That’s key for a GM. He doesn’t get a lot of pub, maybe because his team is in Minnesota, but he’s done a hell of a job
Jahallstar
Pacers have a nice little team going on and you don't really hear much about him..I'll go with Indy...
csdude07
Recently it's been Pacers GM. He put together a really nice squad last season and didn't get too much attention for it.
krup
Martinez because he obviously adds so much to the league. Calling people bitches, cocksuckers, and bitches for no reason obviously makes your team better. Having 5 guys make 10 mil or more is obviously a financially sound way of building your team. He knows everything about everything. He's done everything once and has always done it better than you. He gets no credit though from anyone for all that he has accomplished.
crazymike2021
I would say me seeing that I don't think I have showen every thing I can do in UOSLR. But I'm not going to pick my self. I'm going to go with Shaunkol. I know his not been too great s far in UOSLR. But I know his a good GM that just had some bad luck over all and can still trun it around.
Ashes
Andrew, the Pacers GM, has been very underrated and under the radar. He’s quietly built one of the best team’s in the East through good moves and draft picks. I’m very impressed with the job he’s done and I think he’s a great member of this league. I’m happy to have him here.
Tigertecz: And the Pacers have it according to this very accurate survey.
7) Who is the worst GM in UOSLR and why? Round off a bottom 5 (the rest in no particular order) and feel free to explain why too.
Trunks
Chipper, makes some good moves but his team always suck and never wins. Allstar, he's active here and there but goes away for periods and comes back for short periods. Don't think he has made any great moves to improve his team, he just sits on it and banks on luck, ie Tim Duncan, who still hasn't developed well. Idle, all he does is talk shit but never backs it up with winning or anything. Last, i think Ducky has done a terrible job in UOSLR. Chris Webber, he dealt away for the Dream and from Dream he got nothing. His team sucks period. Maybe having VC on his team, he will do better but who knows.
Donatello2424
I don’t think there is one GM that screams the worse. There are several who just haven’t live up to expectations.
Suns. Never a contender, but not bad enough to be in the running for a top pick. He had a good team in the past, but they seemed to never produce.
Spurs. He talks a big game, but hasn’t produced. He has 3 wings but no PG. Kandi looks to be solid, but I think they made a big mistake giving Finley that much. They need to trade.
Nets. For a team that once won a title, what has happened? Their team is in a state of confusion. Billups might be their future, but his passing is not up to par. They need to tank more.
Kings. Marty’s team isn’t a top team, isn’t a bottom team, and doesn’t have any true pieces to build around. For their production, their starting 5 is overpaid and he will not get solid value in return for them because of that. No picks and mediocre talent.
Warriors. I get that SAR is their main rebuilding piece, but the rest of the team doesn’t scream rebuilding talent. Pierce might be a bust, King is a bit overrated with no defense, and Brown is just mediocre. I don’t see King as being a major piece to rebuild with, so that contract is a major hurdle.
shaunkol
Oh wow. Idle is offically UOSLR’s first GM to be on shaunkol’s top 5 best, AND top 5 worst GM list. Here it is, in no particular order
Idle, Crazy, Allstar, Jahall, Chipper … no offense to these fellas, but of the franchises current and past performance, that’s my list
Jahallstar
Lakers have sucked horribly the duration of the league..sorry....Idle and Mike were horrible, their teams are getting better now though so they could drop off here soon...Hawks have been kind of crappy except with their great lotto luck....I've kind of sucked too.
csdude07
Martinez. No explanation necessary.
krup
Most likely it would be Chipper. Sorry buddy. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept of how to build without leaving the well dry. Then when building fails, he goes to fetch water and comes up dry. He reminds me a lot of skillz with his flip flop ways. I love skillz though and I like chipper too. I think he is a great asset to the league and I hope he learns from his mistakes.
Some other guys are Basone....see question #3. , LakersGM...you are GM of the Celtics wtf is wrong with you that is so sacrilegious, Jah either rebuild or win...mediocrity is a shitty place to be especially with no cap space, shaknol because he blames everything on bad luck. Try reading rule #76 you whiny bitch....no excuses play like a champion.
crazymike2021
In no Order
AllHailManiac: Has gone down hill every season after he took over. Plus hasn't really done much.
In4trance: I just think his a bitch most of the time.
Really that's all I really would put on this list.
Ashes
Cwizz. But anyways, I’ll do a bottom five list. It’s pretty funny since I’m sure all of these people will yell at me either in this thread or over AIM. Martinez, Maniac, crazymike, allstar, and aj23 have been collectively bad. Martinez doesn’t really give a shit, so he’s pretty bad here. Maniac has a lot of stuff going on, so I understand, but he still tries more in other leagues, so he’s been bad. Crazymike has tried, but hasn’t had anything work until making his CY this past season, so at least he’s possibly looking up. Allstar has had a good touch of luck with draft picks, and that’s about it. Hasn’t really done much of anything outside of that. Could easily be one of the best team’s in the league, but instead hardly does shit and sucks it up or stays in the middle of the pack. The allstar way. Aj23 talks a big game, but hasn’t done much of anything. He does have his team looking pretty solid right now, so he’s also on the upward swing.
8) Who is the most overrated GM in UOSLR and why?
Trunks
I would say Saga is the most overrated GM in UOSLR. Dude has only banked on Jordan and he was lucky enough to win the creation draft lottery. He hasn't built his team around Jordan, only picked up a few decent players here and there. Jordan hasn't had a great wingman to play with and all Saga does is rely on Jordan. Once Jordan retires, lets see how well Saga actually does in winning games.
Donatello2424
Right now I might have to say Dan. No offense but his teams have not lived up to their potential. He constantly put out a great offense, but they never seemed to click. He has started to rebuild, but it is kinda past due.
shaunkol
Martinez; the guy is easily a bottom 10 GM and is so inactive. That guy talks a huge game but never backs it up.
Jahallstar
That new Spurs GM is horrible.....I heard he came in with a high pedigree but I just don't see it!
csdude07
Too many Gm questions
krup
Tiger is so overrated by Tiger. Tiger is so into himself that he posts about his own team and their accomplishments, awards, and no one gives a shit. We get it! You like your team, stop shoving it down our throat. Jeez you're like a sim version of the Rock. A: You don't go by a real name you have some hideous nickname...don't you find it weird when grown men call themselves an animal? At least the Rock was big and buff and could back up his nickname. I think of Tiger and for some reason I think of McLovin.
crazymike2021
I guess for me it would be Allstar just becuase I was thinknig he would had dne more by now.
Ashes
Probably Maniac because he hasn’t done anything except get Jermaine O’Neal, but like previously noted he has had a lot of stuff going on in his life. Martinez is pretty overrated. He hasn’t done jack shit, yet talks shit to every GM here, when realistically, he’s been one of the worst GMs in UOSLR. I know he can do better, so he is definitely overrated.
Tigertecz: Krupsy Kreme - Ever heard of Tiger Woods? No? Never mind douche boy. Krup, The Tecz says, know your role and shut your damn mouth, before I take you right down Jabroni Drive and check you straight in to the Smackdown Hotel!
9) Is there anyone in the league you think should be fired? Name and shame them.
Trunks
The current Spurs GM, hardly ever active, doesn't post, doesn't make moves to improve or help his team out in the future, i mean WHAT THE FUCK do something already.
Donatello2424
Well I would say Marty, but it seems that he is on his way out. With Marty he hasn’t done much with his team recently and his activity is mainly getting into arguments with Krup. But outside of him, I would say probably crazymike. Yes he got through his CY, but his activity is really hit or miss.
shaunkol
ASHES. I WANT A NEW COMMISH WHO WILL RIG THE DRAFT FOR ME.
Jahallstar
Tiger....everything he says is a bunch of ...Bull....
csdude07
Martinez. No activity lately.
krup
Yea fire Martinez. He sucks at everything. I was lying before if you couldn't pick up on my sarcasm. The only thing he is good for is mowing my lawn and he even does a bad job at that. He needs to learn how to work on that trimming a little better its a sloppy job but hey what do you expect for lower than minimum wage.
crazymike2021
marty/In4trance: I just get sick of seeing him bitch or cry about things.
Ashes
Probably martinez and maybe allstar. They both randomly post and don’t do much at all. If there were better options out there, I’d probably replace them outright. I’ve talked to both of them about picking it up, but nothing really ever improves.
Tigertecz: Marty getting a lot of love…
10) Which team will win it all this coming season, and who do you think they'll beat in the finals?
Trunks
Timberwolves are going to win it all again. I think they will face Miami. Not to mention they still have to go through the Blazers who got significantly better with KG and Reggie Miller added to their squad. The Grizzlies with Shaq and D Rob. It's going to be a very interesting playoff year. Anything can happen with those 3 squads. Though i feel only 1 team is a shoe in to making it to the finals which are the Heat.
Donatello2424
The Heat. I have said that I love their team and it is even stronger now. Kobe is a beast now and when paired with the rest of their team, they have a great combo. They can beat you with their bigs or with their wings. I do say the T-Wolves have to be the favorite out west. They still have Kidd, they now have Houston, Houston is a good scorer, and they have a sick big man duo.
shaunkol
I got the finals matchup right last year, so here we go with another Nostradamus pick:
Wolves vs Raptors: Wolves in 6
Jahallstar
Well I think the Grizzlies will be there. They will either face the Bulls or the Raptors. I'll go with Raptors over Grizzlies .
csdude07
The Grizzlies will beat the Heat in the Finals. See ya there Schmaranz!
krup
Not to sound like a homer but I think its going to be the Milwaukee Bucks. They have balance and depth not to mention they have a few tricks up their sleeve. I can't wait for the championship parade it's going to be raining beer!
crazymike2021
Toronto Raptors over Minnesota Timberwolves
Ashes
This is a tough choice. You have several teams in the mix. Heat, Pacers, Bucks, Grizzlies, Twolves, and Blazers. I really like what the Blazers did this offseason and think they are the favorites in the West. I still think the Heat are strong in the East, so I expect a Heat/Blazers Finals. I think Malone will be too much for KG at his young age, and Malone just seems to win in UOSLR. I’ll go with the Heat.
Tigertecz: Miami and Minny getting the votes here. To be honest, this year looks like it’s wide open. A lot of competitive teams around the league and lots of teams that could make that extra trade to put them over the top before the deadline arrives.
11) Which team is your pick as a dark horse, the most underrated team?
Trunks
The darkhorse team is the Bulls. Preira is a freak. They are probably one move away from killing teams. Maybe if they can find a good PF they will wreck shit.
Donatello2424
The Cavs. They have been a cellar dweller for a while. They might finally be starting to turn that corner. Duncan looks to be a beast, they have other solid big men. The Anderson duo might be the best 1-2 guard punch in the league. They just don’t get any support.
shaunkol
Gimme the Raptors. Saga + Jordan = UOSLR magic. Watch for the spry New Zealander to sneak up on the competition and take the East. It’s a down year in the conference, so why not the Raptors?
Jahallstar
I think the Pacers have a chance to jump up and surprise some people. If Minor gets going and carries the scoring load for them they have a shot.
csdude07
Bulls. Preira is so nasty. Plus this team has great defenders in the frontcourt and backcourt, which is crucial in the playoffs. Camby was a great addition to the Bulls for cheap.
krup
They've been so good but so bad for the past few years that people are starting to sleep on them. The Dallas Mavericks are looking like they finally are starting to figure out things mostly due to the veteran leadership of Danny Manning. Glen Rice is also the best kept secret in the league. I love that guy!
crazymike2021
Portland Trailblazers. I say that just becasue where they are in the standing now.
Ashes
The Bulls are probably the darkhorse. With the best player in the game, Preira, they are always dangerous, and with Ignacio’s amazing TC, you could see a pretty potent lineup with Chicago. Great defense with Mutombo/Preira/Maxwell, plus scary scoring with Preira and Maxwell. Definitely a team that can surprise a few teams, just like they’ve seemed to do in the past. Perennial darkhorses, heh.
Tigertecz: No love for the Sonics? Seattle are currently the top of the league, standing at 11-1 atop the Western Conference. Barry is a monster and Webster always plays above his ratings… they’re my dark horse pick.
12) What do you love about UOSLR?
Trunks
Great core of active GMs, tough league to win in and most of the GMs are good GMs, i feel a lot of these guys can win a title any time but they haven't shown it but maybe in the future.
Donatello2424
Ashes. He puts a lot into this league and it shows. Great simmage and everything else. He really makes this league what it is.
shaunkol
I love Crazymike. I love the Word association thread and I love TC. That’s about it.
Jahallstar
Winning.... I'm a big fan of winning. I like it. I have had a little. I keep it in a jar on top of my refrigerator. I'd like to put more in that jar.
csdude07
Great activity and great GMs for the most part. Everyone is pretty competitive so it's a challenge to succeed, which makes it fun. I mean, look at some of the stacked teams like the Heat (Malone, Pippen, Kobe) or the Wolves (Hakeem, Ewing, Houston Kidd). Teams like that have really raised the bar in the last few years. Takes a lot to win a ship here.
krup
I love UOSLR a lot. I like the changing of the colors even though some of them are putrid, I think its cool we do that. I also love going back in time because this reminds me of my childhood and when I really loved the NBA and was naive to how lazy and scummy some of these guys are/were. I used to shoot hoops outside of my house and do Jordan fadeaways, or kick up my two feet like Penny, do crafty layups like Vlade, get on fire like my name was Dennis Scott. League ratings are really good too and there are plenty of interesting players. All the GMs are really friendly and I am just being controversial in this article on purpose. I respect everyone in this league a great deal and its been a pleasure getting to know some of you better.
crazymike2021
Great GMs. Every thing go on time and just something about it that makes me love it.
Ashes
The GMs. They are a loveable bunch in my opinion. You have a good upper, middle, and lower class group of guys. Most of the guys in the latter have been growing as GMs in general and have been getting much better. Guys like mops, chipper, Andrew, and a few others have improved a great deal since the league has started. There are still guys in dormant like shaunkol, who was very good in the past UOSL. Activity is great and we’ve gotten to the point where just about every GM knows what they are doing. There are a few question marks here or there, but I feel they are smoothing out with every year.
Tigertecz: Etienne Preira.
13) What do you hate about UOSLR?
Trunks
The constant complaining or whining about not winning the Lottery. You bitches need to shut the fuck up and make moves so you don't have to depend on the fucking lotto.
Donatello2424
The lack of draft stuff. I would like if there were more draft notes from the draft creator. When GMs create the profiles, they have to guess. B defense on a C can mean good post defense, good shot blocking, or a combo. I also would prefer different things with draft people. Like people going overseas, or international guys’ ratings being a mystery until he is drafted. Something to give drafts more of a spice or a surprise.
shaunkol
I hate that I havent won a ring. I hate getting called on in the Word association thread and I hate bad TC’s. That’s about it.
Jahallstar
Losing. My team has been the most under achieving bums for years.
csdude07
Nothing I can think of.
krup
I wish draft profiles, notes, and everything draft related was a bit more timely. I think we need to help ashes out as a group with this a lot better. It seems like everything gets rushed and its a mix mosh sometimes. I don't like the fact we are deleting the buy out rule either. I think it should stay in place and I think the rules for it are pretty stingy but I've come to love it.
crazymike2021
marty/In4trance
I just don't like him.
Ashes
This is a tough one. Not much out there I hate about the league. I wish a few GMs would pick up their shit and do something. That’s really about it. More articles would be nice.
Tigertecz: LOL at shaunkol. You suck at Word Association… that’s why everyone calls you out in it haha. But then… you love the it too, otherwise you wouldn’t keep going back to it!
14) Who would be in your All League Starting 5?
Trunks
Shaq
Malone
Jordan
Preira
Kidd
Donatello2424
C: Hakeem Olajuwon
-He is sick and still is sick. He can do everything, from scoring to blocking to rebounding.
PF: Karl Malone
-Even though he is old he still puts up very solid numbers. He is a offensive beast.
SF: Donyell Marshall
-There really isn’t a guy who stands out as a stud SF. Marshall can do a bit of everything.
SG: Michael Jordan
-I could put EP here, but MJ is MJ.
PG: Jason Kidd
-Another kinda do it all player. Good passer and defense, can score some if needed. There isn’t a PG who is gonna put up 25 ppg so I went with a more well-rounded player.
shaunkol
Lets go with Jason Kidd, Ettiene Preira, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon
Jahallstar

15) Do you want individual DC threads per team or collective DC threads per sim? Or do you not care?
Trunks
I really don't care, do whatever they want, a DC is a DC, if it helps GMs scout and play with mismatches, then yeah go for it but meh it's not a subject i really care about.
Donatello2424
I do like individual DC threads. It is much easier to track when you made DC changes and it is easier to copy and paste. You don’t have to spend 5 minutes tracking down your last DC.
shaunkol
As the fantastic artist Billy Joel once wrote … “I want you just the way you are.” I want DC’s just the way they are. I vote for no change.
Jahallstar
I don't care at all. Whatever is easier for the commish. I am very accomplished in the art of the search button. I can find my DC if need be.
csdude07
I really don't mind. It's not a hassle for me to look back and check what my DC was last time.
krup
Seriously why have we not made it indiv…IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!!
crazymike2021
What ever is best for ashes.
Ashes
I don’t care, to be honest. It’s up to the league. I’m here for them.
Tigertecz: Basically nobody really cares other than Krupsy Kreme... but we all love Ashes
Jahallstar
C: Shaq
PF : Zo
SF: Jordan
SG: Preira
PG: Kidd
