1. Let's talk about your team. What were your goals coming into this season? Did you accomplish them? Name your goals for next season and how you think you will accomplish that.
Tiger: This season I was unsure what direction to go. After Pippen retired I was out of a starting SF, who despite being past his best, was one of the best SF's in this league's history. So without him I thought we'd struggle a lot. I still wanted to compete though and after acquiring Rod Strickland in FA, thought I could stay competitive by having him and Ignacio Rodriguez man the point while Preira concentrated on the hole at SF left by Pippen. Seems to have worked out alright so far as we sit atop the supremely strong Eastern Conference. Hell, we're on course for a better record than last season even when we were a mid Playoff seed. The goal now is to make this Bulls dynasty stick and Threepeat to add that lovely fourth *. Having said that, this year will be the toughest to do it, because so many other teams are so much more talented. Despite sitting at the top of the talented East right now, we've been a bit inconsistent this season so far, so we'll have to see if we can still hang with the younger talents in the league. Next season I'll either continue to try and compete, or go for an all out rebuild if a couple of my starters decide to retire. Trading Preira should land me a pretty damn good rebuilding package... and if it doesn't, I'll let him retire as a Bull.
Csdude-This offseason my goal was to rebuild. Unfortunately, David Robinson got injured in the playoffs and I didn't get a chance to see if my team was capable of another title run. When DRob retired, I decided to rebuild. My big move was sending Shaq to the Spurs and getting some youth and picks in return. The draft really got me excited about the rebuilding process though. Getting AK47 at the #4 and then trading Jason Terry and the 21st or so for the #16, where I got Navarro, was great.During FA, I decided to let Mullin and Simmons walk because the market for vets was very weak because a lot of teams were planning to tank this season. I brought Cliff Rob and Lang back and traded them for a 1st. Now my team is basically Arroyo, Navarro, and AK47, plus my pick this year which should be valuable. Overall, I accomplished what I wanted to during the offseason. Next season I will let my youth develop so I can decide who to play at what position and what guys I want to keep around and develop.
mops- Going into the draft lotto I was hoping for a top 3 pick so I could get a big man. After that didn't happen I was forced to go with best available and I got Prince and Butler. Prince went down in TC and Butler up. People say I should have taken Williams and I could have but thats done and cant do anything about it now.
I traded Prince along with some future firsts for Crawford and Murphey because I needed depth at PF/C and Crawford helps at SG and also PG. My goal is now to get the top pick and take LeBron James or see what the market will yield for it.
Next season I want to win as will have around 17 mil in cap and look to use it all this FA.
basone - My goals this season was to add to my core and build around my main guys. I added Travis Best who has been a nice addition so far and produces consistently. I was originally going to go after TB and I did in FA but he did not sign so I offered big money to Hu knowing I would trade him for a point guard and it all worked out. Right now I am preparing for a very big offseason for the knicks. Wang and Marion could be potential FA's, and I want both back. It is going to be hard to bring both back, but we have a lot of space to get them back on board. I think we will bring both back and really be a force for many years.
2. Let's talk about the state of the league. How do you feel the league has been run so far? Is there anything you would like to see change?
Tiger- Love it. I think Ashes has done a great job Commishing the league with Ducky now taking a more advisory role compared to the earlier seasons. I think the standard of the league is good, and despite the West being so weak right now, with a draft coming up that includes LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony (but to name a few), it's no surprise that there's such a big race to the bottom this year. Despite this, the league is still competitive as ever, and I feel we have a great set of GM's with a good balance of banter and talent. On a minor note, trading seems to have dried up a slight bit recently, although I'm also going to attribute this to the upcoming draft, and it's not something that can necessarily be chaned, just more of a comment. I also must say I like the 4 year period for the Contract Year moreso than the BBS one. It keeps it competitive yet at the same time is enough time for a team to rebuild properly. I think 3 is a little too short like over in BBS and people end up hastily having to trade for old vets rather than build a solid team with good foundations. The only thing I can think of that could be changed here is that we should have more guys sign up for the wrestling sim so we can get UOSLRW vs BBSW feuds going!
csdude- The league has been running great during recent seasons. The activity has had some incredible peaks at certain times, specially around drafts and free agency. It is extremely active now and I wouldn't change anything about the league.
mops - I love this league. I've been in 4 other leagues and one of those I ran. This league is by far the best league I have been in and I dont plan on leaving at all. Ashes does a spot on job of running the league and at times I know i get on his nerves but its all because hes just such a good commish that we as Gms expect the greatest and he delivers time and time again.
If I had to change anything i think it would be pretty sweet to implament the UOSLR NBDL league. I dunno. Lots of work would be needed but a cool way to get more guys action. Maybe sim the minor league just like 6 times a year with each sim being like 20 days.
You make maybe 3 or 4 teams full of our players and the rest of the league are scrubs. You give everyone ample playing time and just go from there.
basone - Ashes runs a great league. Everything is working well here and I think that it is all credit to ashes hard work. I think one thing he should try to do more of is sim on a more consistent basis. Sometimes sims are all over the place and you never know when it will happen. It can hurt you when you want to do DC changes, other than that everything is great.
3. Do you think we now have a core of a solid 29 active GMs with Allstar being recently fired? Or is there some GMs that you could think of that could be more actively involved with this league?
Tiger - I think people could always step up their activity, but it's not like the league is anywhere near inactive imo. The current set of GMs is pretty good, like I said earlier, and I don't think that anybody needs the chop right now. Things like the wrestling sim though would certainly add a lot more banter and a bit of fun. Something I have realised with my own activity though, is that I often tend to post random banter over in BBS instead of in UOSLR. But then, doesn't say I prefer one league over the other. The state of my teams in both leagues is completely different, but I feel more happy to explore trade ideas here, and I feel more happy to talk about random shit over there. These are the only two leagues I'm in so I guess it's good as it keeps my own activity levels up in both leagues one way or another.
csdude- There are several GMs in the league that are just not as active as the rest of the people here, and then there are several GMs that are very active and keep the threads buzzing all the time. This somewhat balances out and I don't have a problem with it. The only time it's a problem is at the start of the season, when things like the draft, free agency, and new depth charts have to be done. Some GMs just can't keep up at this point in the season and it annoys some people who do get their stuff in asap.
mops - Well I think this group activity wise is pretty solid. There is one person here who I dont get along with and that is because he simply uses GTFO or STFU every time you disagree and just treats people bad. And I hope he reads this because i dont hate him I hate how he treats people on here. I know its a message board and stuff but people also need to be civil.
basone - There are a few guys I have no idea what team they run, i really couldn't even name some of the teams gm's off hand, there have been a lot of gm changes over the years and I do not pay attention to all of them. There have been a lot of guys that come and go, but there has been a steady solid core that has been here for awhile. I think we got a perfect group of guys in this league, maybe a few here and there that could step it up but I really cant name anyone at this point.
4. Name the top 5 top and bottom GMs in this league. Take into account what they have done over the span of their career as a GM in this league and not just this season. Explain your reasons.
Tiger - I think I've done a good job and should be in the top 5 list, but will leave myself out to give my opinions on others.
~Top 5 in no particular order:
~ I like what csdude has done with the Grizzlies, going from battling with my Bulls in three consecutive finals on the back of Shaq and D-Rob was some feat, but then also managing to land AK47 and end up in a position to get a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft also goes to show he's rebuilding properly too.
~ I think Krup as a person is, well, an asshole, BUT, I can't knock the team he's built up over the last few seasons and I think he's done a great job acquiring similarly aged talents that will mature together and go into their prime together. I was happy to knock them off their top spot perch last season in the Playoffs though, and hopefully will do the same this season if we meet again. The Bucks are a great team, and I'm giving Krup credit, but he's still a knob unfortunately.
~ Broph has done well with his Nets, and in the last few years has managed to put together a more than solid core of Billups, Rose and Stack. He has the right set of star power and role players to do well this season, and with no player on the wrong side of 30 at all on his roster, his team should be good for another few seasons. He just needs one or two more moves but I think he's done a stellar job, and it often goes unnoticed.
~ Aar has managed to build a good young team and add one of the best players in the league to it in Webber. I love what he's done with his team and think he'll be able to ride off Gil's talents for a long time to come. His team is set to make some noise in the postseason, as he has acquired players like Honeycutt and Webber who can really do it all. Rarely, if ever, have I seen him make a bad trade here, and he now finds his team 2nd out West. Getting Webber and JJ the way he did was sick.
~ I think Ducky has done a great job too. He took a once competitive team for many many seasons, rebuilt by landing VC, and has now got the top team out West after adding Danilovic, Bibby and more recently Ronnie Fields. They have a lot of firepower and with the right big man, could go far with this team. I like what he's done, especially recently.
~ I know I've already done 5, but I think Jah is also underrated and looking at his team, he has 7 players scoring in double figures and has a great young core. Odom is the prize there, but I think that sooner or later, Jah will have built a team that will be consistent post season threats. Just waiting for that one big move to spark it off.
~ Bottom 5 in no particular order:
~ In5ane doesn't seem to realise what's going on a lot of the time. The whole KG debacle when he came into the league was laughable, but the biggest part was that even to this day, he thinks he would've been wise to trade KG for peanuts. He says he has a lot of experience with FBB and that he was sure KG wouldn't re-sign... it was nuts. Everyone knows there's a chance your star players won't re-sign, but there's a big chance that they will. KG did, but in5ane still thinks he was right, despite 28 other GMs and the Commish telling him otherwise. I'll give him props for bringing LJ to the team, but in such a weak conference, his team should be doing so so much better, and I think it's really poor that they're only 4th out West.
~ LakersGM (Boston's GM) doesn't seem to make the right moves and he's always had a pretty poor team imo. I recall him keeping Ron Harper on his team when he was rebuilding, rather than trading him as soon as possible, and his team currently has little to no value imo. He needs to get lucky in the draft this year to turn things round, but I can't see him being able to trade his way out of difficulty, and that's why I put him in the bottom 5.
~ Crazymike has had a brutal time with the Clippers and it's not looking much better. They have Yao Ming but I don't think he's done much since I've been in this league that's been impressive at all, and he needs to step up his game in order to take advantage of Ming.
~ I don't like too much how Kobe24 has managed his Mavs since he's been here. I just don't see the team having enough direction, and he hasn't really been on the better side of deals as far as I can remember. Chandler hasn't proven himself as of right now, and I think Webber could've landed far more talent than what he got. Seeing as though he actually gave up Joe Johnson as well... I dunno. Not a fan of what Kobe24's done in this league.
~ Couldn't really think of a 5th, so I'll leave it as top 6 and bottom 4 lol.
csdude- Top 5
Tiger - He has put together a very balanced team that has won three championships. He has been a championship contender ever since he put his core together.
Trunks - Dunno where he's been lately but like I've said before, Trunks has had the ability of demolishing and putting a team back together in no time. He has had competitive teams for many years and has done so with many different players, which is hard to do.
Andrew - He's got the 4th best regular season win percentage. His teams have always done well during the regular season and have had deep playoff runs. He's just missing a title.
Me - I guess I'll put myself on here. 10 years in playoffs, tied for the most finals appearances with Tiger (4) and won a championship after not having a 1st for six years. Best regular season winning percentage historically, even after half a season of tanking.
Saga - 2nd best regular season win percentage historically, 10 years in playoffs, 1 championship.
Bottom 5
Hawks - Chipper hasn't seen a rebuild all way through. Always seems to trade talent away too early, but maybe he just doesn't like to rebuild all the way. Still, 2 playoff appearances since the start of the league is really bad.
Mops - I can't remember how many times his teams have started hot and blown up midway through the season. He has also made some poor decisions in drafts (2002) and in free agency.
Jah - Has always had mediocore teams incapable of going the distance, and doesn't make the trades to make his teams contenders. Always the 6-8 seed it seems.
Mike - Mike has done poorly historically, but I think he is on track now with Yao leading his team.
DMoney - Doesn't do anything...
mops -1. Tiger-he simply has had the best team over the last 3-6 years. Sure it helps him by having the greatest player to play in the UOSLR most likely but that also plays into a role. He built a team around EP and allowed them to flourish.
2. CSdude-Guy had one of the scariest runs in league history only to be beat out by an out of nowhere stud in EP. Shaq and Robinson together was a damn good frontcourt and many teams would give their left nut for just one of them.
3. Spencer as the hornets GM. His first round as the GM he made the biggest dynasty and was set to have it still intact right now if he didnt trade away some random things.
4. Ducky-strange pick I know but he's had a few WCF and even 2 finals appearances. He took over a team built them down twice and now has them back to the top twice. Best record in the league this year
5. Trunks-Timbas have been pretty damn good over the entire span and felt like with his winning % and his multiple finals appearances he would fit in nicely here at 5.
worst
1. Allstar-just a hack.
2. Cwizz-gross.
3. anyone else I cant remember. I think the rest of the league is a solid one.
I would say I have underachieved however. I should have either rebuilt earlier or sold my future a few times and instead just sat on my team. I should have a better history.
basone - . Tiger, probably one of the best gms so far in this league. He has done a great job with the bulls and they are a dynasty. Best signing of his life, EP. Has three rings.
2. Csdude. Right up there with Tiger, this guy has had a great gm for many years. They have had some sick record seasons in UOSLR. Good gm that built a sick team. Has a ring.
3. Saga, a very underrated gm here in uosl over the years, but even though all he had to do was say jordan as his pick he has done a great job of putting a sick team around him. He has won a ship, and was consistently good for a very long time.
4.Andrew-Consistently puts out a sick team and always seems to know what he is doing. Well see how the rebuild goes for him but he has had some nice seasons here.
5. Gotrunks- I will give it to gotrunks over Dave because trunks has a ring to prove his worth. Plus he has been to two finals and came home with the trophy once. He has had some nasty teams with some of the most dominate big men in the league.
bottom 5
1.Jazz-Whoever there gm is this franchise has sucked for so long, damn they suck. They need help.
2. Celtics- horrible team, makes better decisions.
3. Mavs- Idle sucked, they need help.
4. Blazers- What a mess. so much talent. sad.
5. Hawks- Chip has two 47 win seasons. thats about it.
5. If you had to rank yourself as a GM in this league where would you be rankings wise 1-29 and explain.
Tiger- I don't think it'd be out of line to put myself in the top 3 category I guess. I took the worst team in the league from having no talent whatsoever, to getting the #1 pick in a pretty crap draft where Rasheed Wallace was the prize, and then turned it into the most successful team in the league after signing Preira in FA when nobody else wanted him. Adding Deke, Camby, Maxwell, Pippen etc to the dynasty was pretty special too, and I have three rings to show for it. If the Hornets hadn't been broken up so early I think they'd have had the first dynasty in this league, and although many people attribute a big factor being down to landing two #1 picks to land LJ and Zo, you can't argue with their two rings. So I'd like to say that I assembled a true dynasty here and put myself near the top at the moment.
csdude- I'd put myself as #2. I've got the best regular season team historically and all that stuff I explained in question 4, but I only have 1 championship. Out of all the one-championship teams, I think mine has been the most dominant for the longest.I made the trades I needed to and signed the FA's I needed to remain a top team in the leauge for 9 straight seasons.
mops - I would say in the 16-14 range. I have been in almost all the playoffs and when I wasnt in the playoffs I was awful. Clearly tanking. I've had some of the league's best players at their position. Terrell Brandon, Jimmy Jackson, DeShawn Stevenson, Clifford Robinson, Donyell Marshall, and Vlade Divac. However the farthest I have ever gone I believe is the conference finals if that. I am the classic good regular season team but awful playoff team.
basone - I would probably be somewhere around 10-15, I would just say 12 for shits and giggles. I dont really know. My team never amounted to anything playoff wise, till recently where we won a series. I think this franchise is on the rise and I think I have done a solid job trying to make a winner.
6. Which GM do you think has the highest possibility of actually missing out in their CY?
Tiger - Hate to say it, but Prince is in some trouble imo. He's usually a solid GM and builds some good teams, but this year he's in the midst of a dogfight for 8th seeds to make the playoffs. Ordinarily his team would sail into the postseason, but the problem is that the East is so competitive this year that the Pistons are having a really tough time. As great as MJ has been in this league, he's really on his last legs, and he alone is not enough to stem the tide. The rest of the team is solid, and he has lots of players who are good, but he needs another great player to give the team that extra push. Having said that, I still think they'll be alright, just depends how lucky they get with other teams around him dropping or winning games.
csdude-I think the Bullets are cutting it pretty close. They have had 3 losing seasons in a row and if they repeat that this season, they will be up on their contract year with an ok team in a very strong conference. Good luck to Don.
mops- Myself. If I strike out this year in the draft and FA I am screwed. I dont have my pick next year unless it is top 2 and that wont happen. I then get another round at FA and if I strike out I am done as I have no depth downlow.
However if I get lucky in Draft and FA this year I could be a title contender next year.
basone - Lakers, awful team.
7. What are your predictions for this year? Name your Eastern Conference and Western Conference champ and who will take it in the Finals.
Tiger- Bulls to take the Eastern Conference. Rockets to take the Western Conference. Bulls to win it all. COME ON BULLS!
csdude-I'm gonna take the Bulls vs the Rockets. The Bulls are old but still extremely balanced, and the Rockets are the best team in a horrible conference. The Bulls will beat the Rockets in 7.
mops -I am thinking the Bulls will the east. How can you vote against the three time champ or whatever is. The west will be won by the Rockets. They have so much fire power on the wings.
I think the Bulls will win and it will be so fitting for the west to win as they have so many teams tanking.
basone- Finals. Knicks vs Rockets. Knicks win it all!!! woo. Probably the bulls again though
8. Who's the most overrated GM in this league and why?
Tiger- I dunno really. I'd go for Maniac right now because his 76ers have been treading water for what seems like an age. They have had high playoff seedings in the past because the Atlantic has historically been a step behind the Central out East, and managed to get 2nd seeds without even being the 2nd best team or having the 2nd best record in the East. Having said that they have a good core... Maniac just hasn't done anything to make that good core produce anything special. Dunno if this makes Maniac overrated or just not as good as he could be... but meh, that's my answer.
csdude- Tiger is the most over-rated. He put together a solid combo of players, but you cannot neglect the fact that Preira is like nothing we have ever seen or will see. He can play 1-5 and averages ridiculous stats all across. Any team with a player like that can add a little defense here and some scoring there and be successful.
mops - OH that is a tough one. If I had to say maybe Spencer if I had to. He got insanely lucky when he butt raped Cwizz for all those picks and then got the #1 and #2 picks in that draft. That set him up for life. Even then I think he was skilled.
- basone - DAVE- Dave has not won anything since in BBS like 30 years ago. I thought he was going to do it with his group but it doesnt look like they can win it all. Team has not been playing well. Dave had so many picks and has a lot of good players, they cant win anything though.
9. Name someone who you dislike in this league not named Martinez.
Tiger- Krupinski.
csdude - Kru. He is the most annoying GM in the league.
mops- HAHAHA. I dont dislike anyone else but Tiger's butt humping of EP can get a tad annoying. I love seeing how each team did but he goes out of his way to showing us why hes the best because of the best. Lol
basone - ont really dislike anyone at the moment, maybe chipper.
10. Who would you love to see get into a cage match in this league?
Tiger - Marty and Krup. I'd think that'd be a funny fight to watch. I'd be the special referee for it of course, and I'd probably even root for the Spaniard!
csdude- Martinez/Tiger vs Kru
mops - Marty vs Marty. Seriously. That would be epic. Total hate vs total hate.
basone - With me? or with someone else. I dont understand, but I want to fight chipper for some reason.
11. Anything else you want to add?
Tiger - Etienne Preira rocks, in case anyone hadn't noticed. Also... this roundtable is veeeeeeeeeeeeery eeeeeeeeeeerily similar to my Tiger's Den. I demand royalties!! Marty, when I come to NYC next year, you should buy me something.
csdude - LEBRON JAMES TO VANCOUVER!
mops – insert the 5th consecutive waste of a picture he sent me with his answers
basone - WE ARE GOING TO WIN IT ALL FUCK YEAHH
YANKEES 2009 CHAMPIONS!!! Wooooooooooooooooo
