It wasn't rumored, but it would have taken unanimous approval to let them in, and Stanford said no
Texas in the Pac 10?
First, the Longhorns looked west, to the Pac-10. Berdahl found it appealing that seven of the 10 schools in the Pac-10 were members of the American Association of Universities, a group comprised of the nation's top 62 research universities.
"Texas wanted desperately the academic patina that the Pac 10 yielded," recalls Berdahl, who went on to serve as chancellor at Pac-10 member California-Berkeley. "To be associated with UCLA, Stanford and Cal in academics was very desirable."
...
Still, expansion in the Pac-10 depended on unanimous approval of the member schools. And Stanford, which had long battled UT in athletics as well as academics, objected. For UT, the way west never materialized.

At least Colorado makes somewhat sense geographically.

Meh, that was when the SWC was collapsing, I guess then yeah Pac-10 should've said yes. That would've been so weird though.

Pac 10 is the only conference with true conf. champs every year in both basketball and football. I want it to stay that way.

If the MWC keeps it up, they could become a real conference Keeps what up? Outside of the top 3, the teams are absolute jokes. Would be last place in every real conference. You have TCU, BYU, and Utah, but that's IT. TCU is obviously the better of the three and has been the most consistent for awhile. It's time they moved to a real conference. Totally not true about it being a 3 team league. Air Force has been really solid for the better part of the past 25 years. Who gave TCU their toughest game of the year this year? New Mexico has had some solid football teams recently and so has Colorado State even though they were horrible this year.

Ya forgot about the powerhouse Air Force and New Mexico squads. Powerhouse? Air Force stacks up well with the middle teams of the major conferences. Stack up Arizona, Air Force, Illinois, Arkansas, Kansas State, North Carolina, South Florida over the past 25 years. All teams are pretty much middle programs in their respective conferences.

Unlike conferences like the Big 10(idk y it's Big 10, don't even have 10 teams), SEC, Big 12, Acc, or any other conference. The Pac 10 has all their teams play each other once. There's not one team that plays one team , but not the other. In all other conferences, schedules are unbalanced, teams within a conference don't even play eachother sometimes.
